By the few I mean post wise. There's more people who stated disagreement and voiced disagreement than people who voice positive things about 1.23 and 1.0 but that's neither here nor there. I'm not arguing against the direction 1.23 is going but instead arguing that the direction 14 is going is a solid direction that many people did ask for and want. I have played FF games up to 11 but didn't like much that came after. I'm not loyal to any company or entity. If I stop enjoying 14 I'll simply leave. If I see a game I enjoy more and it requires more of my time I'll leave then too. As it stands I love 14 and the direction it's been going (not happy about the housing prices.) and I didn't like what I saw from 1.0-1.23 at all nor the direction it was going in there so I'm against any suggestions where people are asking for it to go back to that. I do respect your views and opinions. I do not respect those that keep screaming to completely change FF14 into something it isn't, however. Take some things from 1.0-1.23 or 11? Sure. Change it's core concepts? No.

Subscriptions plummeted prior to that due to stagnating for almost 3 years by dragging on Wings of the Goddess. Abyssea brought back people who had left prior (myself included) and caused the egoes to no longer feel unique and special since their god/limbus/abjuration/savalge gear was no longer top. General discontent with the game didn't become notable until Tanaka was brought back and his whole thing about "balance" ensued.

Yes, they eventually caved to the egoes when the whole relic/mythic/empy stupidity began (much to my dismay).

I don't understand the disappointment. So you can't farm Crystal Tower and deck yourself out in CT gear within a week of spamming it. So Free Company housing is expensive and designed as a long-term goal for your FC to achieve and not something you can get on day 1. PvP having kinks to be worked out is not a surprise.

I think the only thing that was a true disappointment out of the whole patch was the removal of Thunder from DoM classes, and that's only because no one saw it coming.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

I don't mind too much all the wow-like features of the game now. What absolutely upsets me is how they made crafting irrelevant. Crafting is great for unwinding after hours of dungeons. They have made obsolete a big part of the game that I loved.

Now I will just wait for a game to come out that I will like better. Because this game is becoming more like all the other games out there that I can't stand to play for more than a few months. The big draw for me was crafting in this game because it always was more difficult than other games out there and took time and effort. I don't see much of anything that takes much time or effort anymore in this game.

Actually... all that content was already planed, even titan was already planed by the original producer, if you own the bonus CD given to you in the original FF14 1.0 limited edition, you would be surprised to see just how much was already intended.

If you read any of my previous posts you'd know I'm not a Dungeon grinder! To this date I haven't even did Garuda HM so forget about CT, Titan, and the Other Extreme Modes and most of my 50 classes are crafters except my PLD and MNK. I mainly like to make Gil and as much as I can (think Mansa Musa)! I love Crafting and exploration as well as PvP sometimes! All of those things are no longer viable in FFXIV: ARR!

It isn't also about me either, I'd love for the game to flourish like it did in FFXI.

Unfortunately, I can't find any actual data on how abyssia affected XI in terms of subscription. So any talk of it is just hearsay and I am sorry for the misinformation I may have spread. It's not really a discussion that can be backed up well, but for what it's worth, every fan of the game I knew still with it quit a little while after it popped up.

However, the talk about "egos" is another matter entirely. I think people should have a right to have a feeling of accomplishment in a game that takes time and dedication. Taking that away from them is essentially saying their efforts never really mattered at all in the game world. And that applies to my own views on game design in general, not just XI.

[QUOTE=Vandark;1766992I enjoyed FF14 for what it was yet certain people couldn't just play that game, instead they demanded it become WoW.
This is supposed to be a Final Fantasy MMO I expected it to play like one.

Instead we got Final World of Rift Wars Fantasy Craft XIV.[/QUOTE]

Very very few felt the same as you about FFXIV 1.0. Thus it wasn't viable to keep it alive. It wasn't certain people who couldn't and wouldn't play, it was the vast majority.

Take a look back at the history of MMOs, those which had limited or terrible launches that only added to and improved the game never got past that stigma. Aka Vanguard, if Vanguard had done the same as FFXIV then it may have turned out different and not been on major life support player-wise and development team wise. SOE with SWG totally revamped it twice, once with the combat upgrade and secondly with the NGE. If they had closed and re-released it has a different game, things may have been different there also.

They HAD to make a new start with the new direction.

To sum up. Those who played 1.0 where not enough to subsidize and maintain a AAA MMO.

It would open up the game a whole lot and give players a reason to actually go out into the game world to participate in meaningful progression and have fun while doing it. This is what we've been craving all of these years but we only get the standard 5 days to hit max level junk.

Put an end to handing out free gear to players and make them put in effort to raise the funds to buy crafted gear to use while leveling up instead.

Make gathering and crafting worthwhile. Add in a few dangerous areas with extremely rare materials that you have to dig up. Instead of endgame content dropping completed gear, change it up so you have to use a boss drop combined with these rare materials gatherers dig up to craft the completed item. Player driven economies are a good thing.

Add in diverse endgame content. Remove mythology tomes entirely and put the alternative set of item level 90 gear in some challenging content that is actually difficult meant for organized 4 player groups. I think it's just plain stupid that you can get a full set of ilv90 gear by simply completing these brain dead easy mode dungeons.

I'm sure I can go on and on about how a mmorpg should be and how super important meaningful progression and grind is to ensure the longevity and enjoyment of a mmorpg but I will stop here. Doubt i'll ever see any of the things I want in the genre ever again so i'll just have to settle for what's available.
This would actuality be awesome, Except the casuals would all be lost and running around in Vendor Whites o.0, theirs just no money in that.

Do what XI did then, make npc sold gear be stupidly overpriced, so you'd use the market
