But then adding even more rare maps that like spawn enemies, that are actually tough to fight on the world map, I love treasure maps, they're fun, but they're not too tough unless you purposefully handicap yourself, lol

It's funny, everyone was complaining about 2.1 being more of a horizontal update rather than a vertical one, but what about once they add new classes/jobs, won't you be so glad they made a solid foundation before building a house of cards?

You would never get great games like the Persona series, Tales series, etc.
ARR isn't that game, and never will be. Accept it.

I do agree some of the greatest games are niche- Silent Hill 2, Dark/Demon's Souls, Shadow of the Colossus.

But being mainstream does not by any means make a game bad, Mario and Zelda are almost as mainstream as they get and they still make amazing games none the less. It's mostly about the developers, right now SE needs to cement some progress, but once it's down, I'll think they'll let Yoshi-P have more leash and let his creativity shine.

To me they're fun for the social aspect, and the fact that they take you places where you never really have another reason to go. However, I love your ideas for them.

Yes! Without a good community any MMO is a totally different experience, and to be honest community has improved since the first month or so in FFXIV in my opinion. Less and less do I see trouble makers and elitists in DF when I run roulette. Albeit I took my own time getting to level 50 on a battle class so never experienced what was said about all the troubles at max level at that time. In fact my numerous DF outings have, overall been enjoyable ones with such a low number of idiotism (tm) that it isn't reallt worth mentioning.

Off topic, but direction this thread is heading, probably not a bad thing :P

just want to chime in here. I've played ARR since PS3 beta, I also played FFXI since its NA launch on PC. I do miss the glory days of FFXI and know that a game of its type would not survive in this climate. That being said I agree with certain elements if carried over would maybe kindle some of that love and sense of wonder I think ARR lacks.

Where as the zones are pretty and have some amazing scenery your never in one long enough to really come to know and love it. FFXI also (for the most part) custom music for every zone that gave it even more personality. No matter what starting city you are from in FFXI if you hear the starter zones music you get that sense of nostalgia and home. My first trip from Bastok to Windurst made me feel like I was so far away from home and gave me trepidation with ever step further from the dock in mhaura. Im with everyone else on wanting the zones to feel more open, wild and dangerous....teleporting although mighty convenient has made the game lose its magic so to speak.

on travel, if anyone played the old FFXI pre-CoP, you remember how awesome it was to get your airship pass, or the excitement in flying to kazham for the first time. How the run from Valkrum to Jeuno was an ADVENTURE. *I hid behind a tree from an orc in jugner forest....that turned out to be a mob and beat me to a pulp*..I just hope in the future ARR at least tries to capture some of these elements....

edit: also in terms of gear,in FFXI there was the epic gear you could get for your class and to make your epeen huge, however if you did not have them it did not make content impossible. If you were a NIN tank and couldnt afford a Scorpions Harness....your AF would suffice for a time(mostly cause you were not getting hit) same for DD if you didnt have the best gear you just didnt do your full potential so to speak......you didnt not do enough damage that the mechanics kill your party after adding up. I know ARR is still too young to have a real variety in armor however its all progressive....there are no same tier this instead of that pieces. There are no enhancements on armor that let people try to have different builds, even the point system was pointless for leveling....everyone wants a cookie cutter pure this stat build.

ah well....ffVII was what made me a gamer when I got it for my 13th birthday.....I met my wife on FFXI in valkrum dunes......I want FFXIV to have a lasting place in my heart but sadly....I dont know

If you're going to expect to be different solely for the sake not following a "basic setup", you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Speaking for myself, I expected something different from FFXI, and that's exactly what we got.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

Why would you want that? Mithra are too dangerously furry for me.

I preferred this, party style leveling was actually better IMO and Leves used to give better rewards in 1.23. leveling in 1.0 wasn't good but 1.23 it was awesome.

I preferred the older areas because they weren't lifeless, in ARR people only use the outside world to level and gather THATS IT! I'm done leveling and gathering so what I used to enjoy out there no longer exists or is no longer useful in ARR.
