Make FFXIV more like FFXI and less like WoW

so I don't have a dog in this fight, having not played FFXI, but i have to wonder why people here aren't simply playing FF XI if XIV is nothing more than a crappy cheap WoW clone and XI is heads and shoulders above it in quality and playstyle.

why bother insisting on changing XIV into something it wasn't designed to be? just play what was enjoyable, and don't play what isn't. if more people did that rather than complaining on a forum while still playing the vastly unenjoyable WoW clone, we wouldn't have so many WoW clones out there.

why not, instead of saying "Make XIV like XI is", just go play XI..?

it's like PVPers going to a 100% PVE game and screaming "OPEN PVP FFA NAO!" instead of going to play Open PVP FFA games.

Yar and then they act like this is some modern mmo formula for success when WoW is just as old as FFXI and many WoW clones have failed. Also just because it takes from FFXI doesn't mean it has to be an extreme grind. That part of FFXI definitely has to improve.

That's the whole point of the OP's post. He/she is saying this game is modeled after WoW rather than its predecessor. And that is true. And how you can say that is staying true to FF with a straight face is beyond me. They stayed true to World of Warcraft. Not Final Fantasy.

FFXI is still live. Why should FFXIV be the same thing? New graphics engine? That's quite an expensive expansion for something with less than 200,000 subscribers. These "wow-like" changes have been part of the reason FFXIV has been able to reach 1.5M+ subscribers. Kind of hard to justify rolling back. While we're at it why don't we do a visual upgrade to pong? Gameplay must increment, improve, change as the audience grows/changes.

Get a few features from FFXI into this game? Maybe, but to turn it into FFXI-2 they would have to shut down FFXI first.

I agree. This game could have easily followed in Final Fantasy 11's tradition while improving on the parts that needed it. It would have made for a unique and better game I think.

And no one is asking for a copy of Final Fantasy 11. They are simply asking for something that followed in similar fashion rather another WoW imitator.

Think about what you just said MageBlack. Did you see what Final Fantasy 11 looked like population wise right after Final Fantasy 14 was released? Because SE is doing exactly what you are suggesting they shouldn't.

How is it unique if its just like FFXI with less grind? Wouldnt that make it a FFXI clone? Arent clones bad? Or a copy and paste? Which also, based off your previous argument, is also bad?

That's easy it's like what if Capcom changed the Street Fighter series into a Tekken Clone instead. I still like Tekken and I'm a Capcom fan so I'll still play it but I would of prefer it to be Street Fighter!
