Reading chat logs, this is an age old design, it was done so because of limitation in UI back then, (I remember counting shadow images in XI, it was cool but it's outdated and should be done with). Now you can see what the monster is casting easily from the UI or by watching its animation, which is essential if you want to enable fast pace gameplay. If you want some serious dodging challenge then try out Ultima hard mode, Extremes, Coil Turn 2..etc. It takes more than reading a couple lines of log to be successful in those content.

There are slashing, blunt and piercing resistance in the game, it's actually utilized in Turn 2 of coil, you get to choose which nodes to kill to enable and disable a certain type of resistance. That said, there hasn't been many content surrounding these features but i believe it'll be more varied in the future.

Elemental resistance was done away but in turn the BLM's role in this game is AoE damage and control, I don't see it as being a loss, it's just a different coat of paint.

Blah blah blah similar to wow blah blah blah I want ffxi

    Then go play ffxi
Things seem similar to WoW because WoW is similar to everything else. You're talking get about a game that has absorbed every Single new Feature to come out in games that launched after it. It is the standard mmorpg and it took it's base design from Everquest. So really with any MMO you're looking at Everquest, not WoW. The bells and whistles are just whatever.

This is the main problem I have with FFXIV... it being fast is so frustrating to me.

Moving all the time, the "tank killer" move being computed before my healing, using coolowns and them not taking effect, being killed in AoE because I didn't pre-move, getting delayed information which coupled with the delay in animation makes interrupting a hell...

I'd rather revert to log reading. The system can't support this kind of gameplay.

Whats the point in beautiful surroundings in the world when no one remains in it long enough to respect or enjoy it, I think for me I beat the entire story in less than a week and that was it, done game over, never need to re visit those areas again.

I hate hate hate hAAAAte hearing the same battle theme song for every single thing in ARR, where is the verity? Even FFXIV 1.23 had that, every area should have different battle music and different music to suit that area, it's a huge chunk of the immersion, ARR has an even more dull song verity than the last game and to think I even wanted the last sound track to be improved on. The worst I noticed is the boss fights, 90% of the time they have the same exact boss song for every boss in the game, so disappointed in that.

Even PvP has that same annoying song we hear in every other fight... like, get over it? Can't we listen to something new?

The only fights that get there own battle theme songs now are the primals, I don't even think Uldah, Grid and Limsa have there own individual battle theme songs anymore.. I liked those.

Just more evidence displaying ARR's seriously lacking verity in content.

I am one of the few 15% that voted "no" to that question. Shame on you man, shame on you

We would like a little complexity.
No matter how many times we say this, people will only read the title of the thread and just come to bash FFXI or the old XIV.

    .
We exchanged different battle themes for each area for having the same theme played with different sets of instruments, which is way more boring really.

See we can both do that.

Never said ARR is perfect, but neither do I think it should copy a game that's dead either. My favourite style of MMO is sandbox MMOs. Do I come demanding ARR should be a sandbox? No. But I am playing and enjoying it for it is. Of course I want more content, vertical, horizontel and side content. More dynamic content. More quality of life changes, more zones. But I also know that nothing magically appears from nowhere. It takes time.

At the moment I trust Yoshi knows what he's doing. I hope that FFXIV over time makes it's own path and stands out from what 1.0 and XI did. They have a stable structure to build upon. Lets sit back and see how it develops. If it goes in a direction that no longer appeals. I'll simply walk away. Without thinking they "owe me" anything.

Yeah agreed, the music in FFXIV is extremely lacking. Cities and surrounding areas are dull. There's one or two good pieces but the rest just makes you fall asleep. FFXI had you humming along to the tunes but FFXIV makes you fall asleep.

That's just it. Base mimicry isn't effective, and this game is pandering to the lowest common denominator.
People didn't stop playing those other WoW rips because the funding went dry. People stopped playing them because, at their core, they where the same game they've seen a thousand times before.

This isn't innovative. It's the "us too" concept amplified to 11. As of right now, there is simply not enough core difference to set it apart.

I honestly only found certain pieces of music from 11 interesting. I either turned off music in the zones I didn't care for or I actually went in and modified the .dat files for the music to be something else. But those pieces I did like honestly were at least 2x as good as my favorites in 14 1.0 and 2.0.

The pieces fit better in FFXI. Like Sandoria the music is fitting for the proud Elvaan race and Windy the whimsical tarutaru race. Udlah, LL, and Grid are so bland. They really don't feel unique.
