Perhaps it is just me, but I can't help but laugh when you are engaged in a fight and the music suddenly changes to this overly intense melody and my opponent is some barn animal.

That's exactly what I'm getting at.

Look at all the FF games of the past though.

Change in music to a battle theme when fighting the weakest of things to the strongest.

It is sorta a trait of the series more or less. Honestly I prefer the battle themes, then to have the normal BGM playing while fighting.

Don't change music. Add more themes for different parts of zones. And yes, more variations of Battle theme.

I agree on this. Also because some tracks maybe are too short.

Speaking about nice nobuo tracks in ff14.. put this in the villages pls

With the addition of different music within the same zone, I would hope they would actually implement something to warrant the change, such as introducing features unique to that section of the map.
For example, the Black Shroud is the same throughout overall. If they were to make the northwestern part of it more diverse, perhaps it is more prevalent in flowers, then it would make more sense.

The soundtrack is in shambles but not because of the composer: He if I remember had written them before even getting a good feel for the world of Eorzea. When you try to perfect a soundtrack, you need to get a feel for the part.
he had written the parts and someone else had applied them to different zones and such. I agree that it is not the greatest set-up of songs BUT the songs themselves are good.

Oh, also...I can point you to a LOT of people who can say this game's OST is one of the best in the SERIES, dear OP. Including people that hate the game with a passion. I can also point people that hate XI's OST and Naoshi Mizuta.

I personally consider a few of the songs you criticized to be some of Nobuo's best songs in his whole career.

    In other words:

Although it's all down to personal preference, I must say I actually enjoy listening to FFXIV's soundtrack much more when I'm outside of the game. Whether that says more about SE or Uematsu I'm not sure. :s

In-game, however, I don't know...the zone tracks in particular are too short, yet the battle themes have three movements or some such nonsense, despite battles rarely lasting over two minutes! haha

It also bothers me that when I engage something in, say, La Noscea, overblown electric guitar is shoved into my hearing holes; it's completely incongruous with the preceding zone music. The battle music in Coerthas being the delicious exception. :3

I suppose what bothers me most though is that - unlike XI - there's no common thread to the music in XIV, which means that it doesn't enhance the game world, but clashes with it instead. :/

I've always been a fan of Uematsu's music - although I certainly think we should judge each soundtrack on its own merits! - but I think his talent lies in writing music for CSs/pre-defined scenes rather than a dynamic MMO world.

Having said that, the music hasn't been implemented at all well by SE, has it? The behest music is also used for battles in Nanawa Mines; some tracks that don't pick up pace until the one minute mark are used during instances that won't last for more than twenty seconds; lots of epic sounding tracks are wasted on events the player will likely never remember; and other anthemic tracks are being utilised in obscure places (hello Mistbeard Cove).

I've no doubt that the music choice for upcoming content will be much more fitting - whether it's existing music written by Uematsu or not - and I look forward to hearing it. (*'-')b
