havn't finished yet..
I guess I'll take a stab at this and try to explain some positions that I hold succinctly on the reason I (currently) continue to play.
SOOOO.... Apparently these forums suck for trying to debate a point... 1000 characters really? Fine condensed into super short points...
1) Difficulty - Brayflox, Titan, & Garuda were interested and had me excited about endgame encounters, but they dropped the ball.
2) Community - Overall most the community at release of this game was good and while people have started dropping off overall it's still not bad.
3) Gameplay - More tactical feeling due to GCD & animation locking. THIS IS NOT A BAD THING.
4) People - Really the only reason I'm still around is the people I've met here.
I continue to play because I believe the game will get better over time, so while it is not optimal at the moment, I'll keep playing to get more ilvl90 gear so I can be ready for new content whenever that hits.
Well i suppose the game has a future with stuff they have planned it depends how quick they can get content out to build on the foundation they have. Endgame still needs work which feels like always the case with an MMO when it gets released. The main problem is a lot of developers are slow to build content to keep people interested once they are done with the main story.
Right now i play just because i still have a sub so i'll get my monies worth. Still have coils to do so i'll find a group for that and in between that i just end up doing random dungeons for the fun of it and farming tomes for my +1 Relic.
With all that said I'll list some reasons why I (and people with similar mindset) and even people closer to the 'casual' end of the spectrum won't continue to play if things don't change.
Things to do:
1) You can say it all day long, but honestly most people won't level all classes and gear them and even if they do I can level and gear a class in 3 days most of the time.
2) Raiding... Well let's see most 'hardcore' people would spend 12-14 hours on per week and we have less than 7 hours worth of content right now (that's if you are doing turn 5 for 6 of those hours....)
3) Grinding Philo tomes? Why? Well this goes back to point 1 and thats the only reason.
4) Leveling up Chocobo? Yea.... not interested in a combat pet that really has no point other than to farm with.
5) Anything else I'm missing?
Overall I probably as well as all 50 of my FC members probably won't be subscribing outside of this month. It's a drop in the bucket but honestly I'm sure I'm not alone. And with 2.1 bringing very little of a reason to stick around I probably won't subscribe again unless PvP is AMAZING. Because, honestly that would be the only reason 2.1 looks interesting. Taking a step back in level of difficulty is a horrible oversight.

To be better than Halcyon Cam.
I love coils, I think all 5 turns are a lot of fun, and I'm really enjoying my FC's progression in 5.
I think Titan is a wonderful fight and I have never been so excited to clear a fight in any MMO after our progression (turn 5 may trump, but probalby only if sword drops and goes to me on first kill)
I have all battle 50s from 1.0, I have three full dl, my pld is half way to full i90, I play way too much, I think i count as a member of the "elitest hard cores that hate pugs." I do, kind of. If I shout "I want to do this as a speedrun" and you answer saying "yeah i'm good for this" in your level 30 accessories, that's just a lie. You have decieved me. If I join duty finder, that's one thing, I knew I would almost always out gear the others and be carrying, but I accepted that by joining DF.
I spend too much time on these forums, I read a lot of the posts, and I do agree there is too much vitrol in the "geared/xcores vs. casuals." I think most of this is when either group feels like their space is invaded by the other. If a "hardcore" is trying to build speed run or titan or coil groups, and they say as much, it is perfectly fair for them to expect their team mates to have a similar level of investment. If a "casual" joins duty finder, or builds an explictly non-speed run group, and a "xcore" joins and starts demanding speed runs/gear, its perfectly reasonable for the "casual" to get angry. Just because you think you are in of those two groups, or some where in between, doesn't mean you have the right to expect the entire game to be built for you.
I am against a Titan nerf, I am against a coil nerf. having been part of the effort to build a FC and do progression, I agree with the assesments of many otehrs that these fights are well tuned and perfectly fair.
I would be okay with a "easier titan" that awarded ilv70 versions of relics for casuals so they can have the pretty visual. (This would be an entirely separate mode, say "Adventure-Titan," and would NOT remove the current hard mode from teh game. Also, this i70 CANNOT be upgraded straight to the i90, one must pass through the i80 fight.
What do I do in game?
Well, turns 1-4, now that we are trhough them, only take us about 2 hours (not the fastest of the leetest, but still pretty hasty), which happens on monday night and often leaves me sad face as I come to realize there is no chance (or at least, very little in turn 5) of vertical growth on my paladin :<
But I really enjoy scholar and blackmage as well, so there is plenty of pre-coils content to do to gear and play those classes. Currently I'm working on making and melding vanya for my sch to be totally over powered with that 30%ish crit rate.
I haven't finished levelign crafts, never gotten into gathering, so plenty left in that direction. There is near endless horizontal growth room.
I'm not as pesimistic about 2.1 as many others. I expect CT to be hard for reasons other than numbers. Rather than it being the sorts of gear checks that say turn 4 and 5 are, I expect/hope it will requrie coordination on a much large scale.
Sure, with any luck, my pld will be full/very nearly full i90 by the time CT hits, but that means all that pretty crystal themed i80 gear can go to my second love SCH.
But, really. All of this is to be better than Halcyon Cam. Because nothing makes me happier than lording over my friend. I have a 600 hp lead on him atm :>
I play to be better than Halcyon Cam. Anything he can do, I CAN DO WAY BETTER AND LOOK BETTER DOING IT CUS RAWR

I must be doing something wrong if "casuals" can not only level, but gear a class in 3 days. How are these casuals you speak of getting 3 weeks worth of myth tomes in 3 days? How are these casuals leveling to 50 in 3 days? I mean getting to 50 in 3 days is certainly possible, but not in a couple hours a day, unless again, I'm doing something very wrong.
Is because I enjoy the sense of community, the accomplishments, and the Personal Achievements/Goals I've set for myself.
The game is a great way to meet new and interesting people, and hopefully make some friends!
On a different note, it can also teach you a lot of RL lessons, and I kinda enjoy that as well.
But yeah, its you people that keep this game interesting to me![]()
I am a winner, even though I sometimes fail.
People have a skewed view of the term "casual" is why. If you play four hours a day, that's not casual. For five days that's twenty hours, a part time job. And usually, they play even more on weekends. "I play a lot so I get a lot done" is news to precisely nobody but that doesn't stir up in the forum, does it?I must be doing something wrong if "casuals" can not only level, but gear a class in 3 days.
