Best gear in game: Have you capped myth this week? check

Currently Myth gear is (okay, not all pieces) the best equipment in the game.

Coil is currently the hardest content in the game. It drops Allagan gear.

Even though the best scenario is to mix and match Myth with Allagan, generally speaking Myth > Allagan.

However Myth gear is obtained by doing a few weekly run of extremely easy dungeons. Waiting two weeks, and trading in your chips for what usually accounts as the best gear in the game.

I really hope that for the incoming new AF that was shown in the Live Producer's Letter, they have designed a better system and stop using caps to lock us out of equipment, handing in the best gear for merely sticking with the game long enough.

At the very least I hope it comes in second and make the hard content actually drop the best gear.

    sigh.

It takes like five months to get a full set of myth gear. You could be fully stacked in ilevel 90, usable on multiple toons, with a week or two if you had good luck.

I'd call getting every single drop and your party members none for two weeks a bit more than good luck.

    Pretty much this.

People often complain about options to obtain gear... here's your option if you choose not to take the potentially short road (CoB) with the best gear. I'm not sure what the OP is exactly focusing on though. Is the problem that the best gear is available for those willing to spend months of weekly repetition commitment? Or that spending months for it is too long?

You'd also need to be getting only drops for the one job twice per turn in all turns lol

    Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I'm focusing on that in order to obtain the best gear in the game you need to commit weekly for a bit over four months to repeat over and over the same content for no other reason than to get tokens.
I'm focusing on the fact that obtaining the best gear in the game isn't a matter of tackling down hard content, it isn't a matter of skill, it isn't a matter of progression, it's literally just being there four months without missing a week of very minor grinding.
I'm focusing on the fact that the hardest challenge in the game rewards you with gear that is usually weaker than the gear you can get by just not-quitting.
And I'm focusing on the fact that SE is using a weekly cap in order to slow down a player's progress because otherwise you'd actually see it for what it really is.

Either way, both only take up about 3-4 hours of your time... Doesn't leave you with much reason to play afterwards.

a DRG in our coil static picked up 4 MNK pieces in one week. I haven't gotten a single piece (despite two healer drops) in 5 weeks. Call it what you want. Like he said, with good luck you can get a set of allagan pretty quickly. Our DRG had some luck and now he has 4 pieces of monk allagan. Not just accesories either.

The allagans are nice if you get them early but eventually, you're going to get the 90 set which helps you make getting allagans easier. I'm happy they're 2 sets of level 90 instead of one. You can choose to pick which set to wear base on stats or appearance. I prefer the AF2 or whatever you call it since it looks a lot better. Once vanity slots come, you can mix it around for best stats and such.

What I see is that they've tried to copy WoW's currency system and failed. Currency gear has the same stats as dropped ones, but is almost never better. So, even if a person is decked out in Valor, they still want to raid to get their drops. Also... why is job-specific gear bought with currency? In WoW, what drives most people to raid is to get their class tier set.
Here, maybe an Allagan or two will be BiS... but why would I care about it, when Relic armor is so much cooler, easier to get and almost as good?

Then we have DL gear... without any droppable equivalent, crafted being much harder to get, and way too expensive to make it worthwhile. So you have people running the weakest instance in the game (WP, previously CM) and getting the best gear. There's no incentive to go out and drop your stuff. Many of the AK things I got isn't because I farmed it - it's because everyone was already in DL and had no need for it, and passed.

Next you have Titan who forces you to have DL or higher. So, everything you get in AK and WP is completely worthless, as you can farm CM in your AF and skip all that.

The progression in this game is completely messed up. Dropped items should be more desirable than bought ones, always. No wonder people who want progression are bored - Yoshi-P is effectively removing every single "inconvenience" that comes with MMORPGs.

Myth craps prevent people from gearing up too fast, so I don't see why you guys are making a big deal out of this. Five months is a really long time to work on the same armor set, and chances are, 2.1 and 2.2 will make myth gear not BiS.
