OP, Just like to say holy sh**. Myself as a very casual Tank player, (only get 6 hours max a week to play due to kids and work), obviously have not reached endgame but am slowly getting there. I find myself dreading endgame from the horror stories on these forums. Reading your entire post made me laugh at serval points and frankly made alot of sense. I have not expeirenced any a**holes yet in DF but im sure I will enventually. Anywho, just want say that this place needs more ppl like you that are willing to rant without being an a**hole and calling everyone else out on ther flaws cause you are totally right about ppl pick a class for a reason and honestly i see absolutely no reason to be a raging dipsh** cause someone made a mistake on a VIDEO GAME!

Its why I'm glad I only go with FC tanks, they arent drama queens like this.

Stay away from DF or just ignore anyone you come across in it, let them rage and leave if they wish, you proberbly wont see them again.

being a tank and a healer, I get rudeness from all fronts...

I'm a nice person to everyone. I don't care what your role is. I like to pick on DPS, but it's all in good fun, never serious and I really only joke around with friends because everyone is easily offended. I don't care what role you play. I don't think you're better than everyone else or anyone is better than you. You may be a better player or better at what you do, but everyone is still a person and should be treated like one. I simply won't bow down to you for the fact you play tank. I won't kiss your feet or anything. Walk on eggshells around you. The moment you disrespect me, you're not worthy of my time. I know what a joke is and I know how to take one, but trying to shame someone over a video game is just ridiculous.

That's just my thoughts on it.

I gotta say, between the 3 roles, Tank is the only one I have to steel my nerves on when I queue up for DF.

Nailed it. As a DPS I'm thrilled. As a healer I'm a little reluctant but confident enough in my abilities. As a tank, I give myself a little pep talk; "they're just angry nerds, dude. don't lose your ****."

Only thing I will disagree with, and its a very tiny quibble...

Agreed on all other points, but I'd like to rebuke on one point, while WoW and other MMOs were fairly ill-equipped in their earlier days, it's not a true comparison to compare a modern game released within the last few months to a game's state a decade ago. It's kind of like when people go banana sandwich over launches, then mention that a game built ten years ago had the same problem. Progress, mother fathers, do you speak it?

Otherwise solid points. And like you said, I doubt anything will ever change. This article was written because I like to entertain and write, not because I actually believe my pseudo-attempt at making a point is going to redefine human behavior and the psychology of dudes that are hell bent on exercising the power of anonymous status in a video game when in the real world they probably get the crap beaten out of them in junior high. Maybe.

Edit: What I don't like is writing the word pseudo since I spell it wrong every time.

As far as my experiences have been, ALL classes can be jerks. However, the ones with the biggest egos are generally tanks.

TL;DR - In my experience, all jobs can be jerks, but tanks have the biggest egos.

I'll respond to this one even though many people in this thread have responded (accurately) that it's not just other roles that can be terrible human beings (hence the "and people in general" part of my title). I fully agree that many tanks feel entitled and obligated to make everyone realize how important they are. It's garbage, and probably infinitely worse than the DPS with a big mouth. But hey, that's an article for another day. So there's that.

I said "You need to get out of that green crap", and his reply was "You trying to pick a fight?" This was a full darklight geared pally that was obviously there to help someone else queue up faster. My question though is, how is telling someone that standing in stuff is bad trying to pick a fight? Needless to say when I asked him how I was picking a fight, the answer was only silence.
