    RNG vs BRD

This is probably an old question but:

What are the chances that SE will split the Job for archer into either RNG or BRD. Kind of like they did to Arcanist being either SCH or SMN.

I am tired of not being able to use a Limit Break that actually deals damage. If Bard is DPS then why not give bard a LB that is DPS. This is highly annoying and makes it difficult when you are stuck in a Duty with only Bard as DPS.

:S I dunno what you mean by difficult but whenever I go in as bard and encounter another Bard we usually wreck stuff pretty well. I in my opinion highly doubt Archer is gonna get two jobs just like Arcanist did. What I can see happening is Bard (Perhaps Summoners as well?) getting their own Limit Break which either is a different DD break or an actually LB which enables some kind of support similiar to the Bard's songs, which would be nice. Aside from that.. :S Bard with the healer LB is really useful in raids where you kinda know you're able to get 3 stacks. Tide changer right there if something goes wrong and the healers are down or majority of the raid is down. Also if anything if they were to add a version of Bard which isn't support and just DD like dragoon or something.. It would be the Musketeer class as they're range as well, only difference is they use guns.

I haven't been in a situation like yours so I don't 100% know where you are coming from but it does make sense. Musketeer/Corsair thing could be a good solution. Guess I just need to work another class/job up to 50 if I want to do end game fights and have a DD LB. Or I suppose I could just do a fight that requires BRD LB 3

Maybe you need to get the dragoon skills like blood for blood to see your dps get crazy? I have a bard in my free company who has all his cross-classes and when I group with him I see him doing some crazy dps even when he uses Foe's Requiem to buff his dots, waaay better then me barding (I only have monk cross-class skills cause my main is a tank.) If you enjoy the bard class don't swap to another just because you wanna be able to use the LB. Raid wise I don't really even see the LB being used as much. On Titan HM my group really only uses it once. (Can't speak for Coil as I've never been in there.)

I didn't really think about all that. I suppose that is what makes me an average player rather than a great player.

I would bet on a good chance that ARC gets RNG or a more DPS-focused job. However, it will likely also get a healer LB, since ARC doesn't have a DD LB despite being a completely DPS-focused job with no real support skills. SE probably figures all ranged DoW should get healer LBs.

I was totally theory crafting with friends saying how Musketeer would be either Ranger, Corsair, or Both.

The problem i was having with it not being on ARC is that ARC has the signature Ranger ability "Barrage". Barrage would be a base class skill for Ranger but then add on things like Eagle Eye Shot etc. I have no problem with RNG being on guns or bows, but you wont see me not complain if we get Slug Shot/Sidewinder like in XI :9

All things in good time. They've stated clearly that bards with a dps limit break would negate bringing other dps classes. Perhaps after the nerfs they could have one. I believe that eventually all the classes will have branching jobs, but archer and bard are in a very tough spot to deal with. Bard is traditionally seen as a support class, and I think was played with more support power but less damage in 1.0, putting them in a spot where noone wanted to take them, which is why they're where they are now. If you introduce another job branch from archer, what happens? Do you make bard a healer? Something in between? Keep it as dps and make the new one a tank or healer? If you switch bard from damage to something else you create a conundrum for players that want to play dps. Yes they can switch to the new job, but now all their gear that they've spent currency etc on is healing gear.

Possibly on top of this you would need to introduce more "support" jobs that dip into healing and damage and give them a slot in duty finder etc. Which inevitably means either 5man parties, or 1 tank 1 healer 1 dps 1 support parties. Changing bard to support is what a lot of FF traditionalists want bard, but it could open Pandora's box.

Well when I first heard about the job in 1.0 I was thinking it would end up being the same thing, just running around and buffing people. Would be nice if the songs could have a smaller effect area like in FFXI so you can MP one group and TP another. But that could get more confusing I suppose. Can't say I didn't try it though
