Don't want to name any names or make a shame thread but wanted to share a funny FC story and thought I'd see if anyone had any other funny stories to tell.
Shortly after launch a friend and I are randomly invited to a large FC while leveling (always a sign of fun times to come), over 200 people, pretty active, etc. We like the rank 5 buffs and the large number of people and figure, why not? Maybe we’ll meet someone endearing.
So everyone is doing their thing. Leveling, crafting, random convos in FC chat, people asking stupid questions. The usual. Then one day the officers and the GM start soliciting all the random people they invited for gil. They say they are taking "donations" for a FC house in 2.1 and would like everyone to contribute at least 10k. My friend and I ignore their requests.
After about 10 days of this the officers start getting more aggressive about it. They send my friend tells asking him to donate his 10k. He declines. That's when the officer who asked starts whining and guilt tripping my friend in FC chat, "this is for the guild house you guys," "Donations for the house are going well but certain guildies are being greedy with their gil and not donating", etc.
So I ask them why we should be donating to content that is/(was) still speculative at this point? They tell me how they aleady have "350k" in the FC bank, I tell them that a fool and its money are easily parted and ask how they even know how much the house if going to cost? Is 350k even close to enough when high level crafters make many times that?
At this point my friend and I are promptly relieved of duty. Now fast forward to server transfers. I haven't seen the other tag for a while so on a whim I check out the GM’s character on lodestone. He is now on another server, in the same guild but there are only three members. I did a quick search and asked someone on my server that is still in the guild. Apparently, the GM and a couple officers took all the money, cleared the bank (they were always asking people to donate mats to the bank) and bolted to a new server like thieves in the night.
The moral, again: a fool and his money are easily parted.
