Over Meld chance

Is there any way to increase the chance of success? As current, my 3rd materia melding on a chest piece is only 44% chance, is it judged by craftmanship or other stats?

Nope, just luck. I wasted about 40 materias on ONE single overmeld.. chances of success were 24% each time and I kept failing. It was painful ;(

I think it is 42% for the first overmeld, 24% for the second, 14% for the third, and 8% for the fourth.

I have not tried sticking 4 material onto something that lacks any material slots, to see what a fifth overmeld would be.

Oh yes, after going through all the equipped items, it seems the level of materia is also affecting it differently, the higher level materia then the lower chance of success.

I'm currently at 30 attempts for the 4th meld of my Astral Ring with a 11% chance of success. 30-40k per attempt gets expensive, very quickly.

I thought you needed at least 1 slot to meld.

I think it's fine how it is. Keeps materia prices up
