I am now 50, have started to do the grind, which is in and of itself, not the most terrible experience. However after having got to fifty is anyone concerned, and I know they are, that nothing along the way of the game has caused you to "stop and smell the roses." I got to fifty in about a month of "casual" play, and that is 2-4 hours a day of leisurely playing the game. I know there isa lot in the game but what bothers me is they have recreated this game from the ground up and nothing has made people stop along the way to really say, "Wow this is amazing." Now that one starts the game at 50, since the whole leveling process as Yoshi has said was basically a training ground to get you to end game as fast as you can, one begins to grind the same few instances. No this is not a complaint about lacking end game, in fact I dont think many would complain at all if they hadn't reached the end so fast. Had SE done what they should have done and kept the leveling pace at a medium instead of putting into overdrive, then there might not be so much complaining right now about the state of end game.
So many things in this game could haved helped slow the process without making it the grindfest XI was. For example, running should have been the primary mode until 30, at which point we get the quest for the choco. Sprint being on spam means this wait wouldn't really affect the games pace too much. Also, the fact that you have porters in every city and can rent a chocobo really makes getting the chocobo itself superfluous really, and lets not get started on teleporting. You know what is funny even as I write this, the speed in which things are received and your character leveled, almost makes my mind muddled on when anything that was of importance was even received. Teleporting should have been given around 45, we had choco for 15 levels lets add a bit of excitement and privledge to having got to a high enough level. I think the traveling in this game is a bit off, too fast to quick to often, things should have been implemented to make getting a mode of travel and landmark event and not something you wouldn't even remember.
Dungeons and duty finder are one be hot mess. They promote antisocial aspects within ones own server, why stand and shout or get to know people when you can just queue up and get a horrible premaid pug. I know what you are thinking, "well you could just make the group yourself from servermates or join an fc." Duty finder seeming has already killed the grouping aspect within a server, unless you are at RT shouting for a coil, hm, etc etc etc. Already at end game and everything that has been created to get you there ignored/bypassed (fates), or quickly grinded through to get to the next dungeon. I wish you could actually walk up to a dungeon and load in regardless of level or group size and just explore. Granted in other mmos doing this as a max level kind of made it funny but you could then run people for specific gear and get to know people. Hell I miss running lowbies through dungeons to get them gear just because I was bored and wanted to get to know someone, with the hopes I ran across a cool person to add to my group of friends/guild. Timers are another aspect that make no sense, they say it is to ease dungeon congestion, but if they are not implemented in other MMOs why are they necessary here? They create a horrible group rush rush rush mindset, that pits everyone against each other. Tanks fighting DPS to keep order, DPS fighting everything to get top spot, poor healers trying to fight the dungeon and the group to keep people alive ( I know I am one). So few people learn their role or niche within a group and become terrible endgame players.
DF should focus on those within your own server first, or give you the option to see who is looking in your server so that can choose to group with people in the same virtual world. By doing this the social aspect of an mmo would be promoted. Once you see there is not tank or people looking you could click a button saying "Search for random player," or something simple. Then having the people gather up at the dungeon, buffing up and heading in to conquer the place. I honestly miss the phrase "omw almost there give it about a minute." DF kills the social aspect, group dynamics, and overall good will between players. How often have we heard horror stories of people just afking in dungeons? People who do this are merely a by product of the antisocial, "I dont give a crap I am merely here for my tombs" mentality. People don't work together, again, they work against each other. Seeing as no one is from the same server and has no social repercussions it doesn't matter, because no one will remember.
Had both of these aspects been a bit different, the travel and dungeons, then I think this game would have been much better. things would have halted to a snails pace they would have been a happy medium. I have little time as well in life with a full time job and social aspects with friends. But I still manage to play, this would not have prevented thos other aspects in my life. Would have written more but had to head to work.
TLDR: Go back to the top and try again from the beginning, hopefully this game hasn't killed what little attention span most gamers have left. sorry for the many typos no doubt but i was rushing to get this in before work.
