Oh God, no. Grinding from orange to yellow, rinse and repeat. That's not a way to make a crafting system. FFXIV got it right the first time. It made crafting into a strategic minigame that challenges you to see how well you can craft soomething and rewards you for doing it well.I personaly do i know its easy to cap a crafting in ffxiv with triple leve quests in the period of 1 or 2 days so i dont see the point in the time sink with exp leveling where u can level with point systems like in wow and cap faster than wait for allowance to fill up and cap 2-3 craftings in few days
You want to make crafting challenging, don't do crafting dailys, makes it last longer
For those confused, Ill try to describe what he wants to turn our crafting classes into.
In WoW, Crafts are Professions any class may take, but only 2 of ANY combination of profession (gathering/crafting)
So you go to the Trainer NPC and buy Rank 1 for whatever craft you want to learn, then buy ALL the associated recipes individually, but only the Rank 1 ones.
Each profession has, i think its up to 575 now? ill set it to the last time i cared, which was 425. Now, its something like, 75-150-225-300 etc, you have to buy a new rank, then you must again purchase from the trainer all the recipes for that rank.
Secondly, to level it, you have 4 'stages' of color on any given recipe.
-Grey = No chance of skill up.
-Green = 25% chance to skill up.
-Yellow = 50% chance to skill up.
-Orange = 100% (this may have changed, i think it was 75% waaay back in the day) chance to skill up.
These days, some recipes that are "hard" (read: takes an absurd amount of mats to make) now give multiple skill ups. Recipes will generaly shift to a lower color every 5 or so skill ups you gain. Eventually all will be grey and you will be forced to make Epics to get skill ups.
Imagine trying to get from 40 - 50 in XIV on Vanya/Darksteel/Rose Gold alone, lol.
So now you take the mats for your recipe, click the recipe you want to make, click Create, twiddle your thumbs for a few seconds and DING! out pops your item. Based on the aforementioned color scale, you will now receive (or not) a skill point.
And thats WoW crafting. Oh and i should also mention that lately its now possible for some few recipes that pop out a Green (uncommon) item, may turn out blue (Superior), kind of like our HQ system but super incredibly RNG, but for very specific leveling recipes only, for gear that is quite worthless.
Which is something else i should point out, the crap you make with WoW crafts, is just vendor trash except the very high max cap purple recipes. So have fun churning out a million crappy hats for the vendor to get your 10 skill ups.
And a short note on Gathering Professions in WoW.
1: Take Mining pick into inventory.
2: Turn on mineral finder.
3: run around in circles until a yellow dot appears on your minimap.
4: run to, and try to click the node. OH NO! that guy on a 310% speed flying dragon drops out of nowhere and takes your node!
5: repeat steps 3 and 4.
Because all nodes are one time only, first come first serve. (respawns on timers)
Now, assuming you ever managed to get to a Node, i shall explain what happens.
1: Left click node. Twiddle thumbs during the 2 second channel.
2: Hope the RNG gods saw fit to provide you with something other than a couple of rocks.
3: find a new node.
Use the crafting color scale to determine if you would have a chance to level up. Same Rank X purchasing system as crafting too.
And thats what this guy wants.

Why? It's not needed.
Crafting is just fine as it is. If I wanted the crafting game from some other MMO, I'd be giving them my monthly fee.
One of the things I like best about this game is that crafts are actual legitimate classes, not just secondary side professions. I get that the hardcore raiders may see crafting as boring and (if they choose to level any) a chore, but there are plenty of players who enjoy crafting simply because they find it fun.
HELL NO!!!
Yeah, no thanks. I like the crafting the way it is. It's unique and requires strategy and attention. Why would you take the only thing in the game that doesn't completely rip off other MMOs and change it so that it rips off other MMOs? And in a way inferior to the way that it already is.
I don't mind either system, but I do think crafting needs to stop letting you turn in HQ market board items to complete quests. It just doesn't make sense to gain crafting XP for something that the player didn't craft.
~Note to self: Stop logging out in silly hats~
Sign me up for the nope group... the only thing I would like to see done with it is make it a tad more useful end game.
