    Framerates

    All:

I built a custom gaming rig about 2 years ago and am wondering how my framerates relate to other peoples. Relevant system components are as follows:

    I5-2500K
    16GB PC16000 RAM
    EVGA GTX 560TI 1GB
    128SSD just for games.

I have every graphical setting maxed and I am finding my framerates for the game fluxuate pretty dramatically. I'll be down to 30FPS in certain open world situations and then back up to 60 in others. For instanced areas, the FPS is locked at 60. I do not have this problem playing other MMOs at full-specs (GW2, SWTOR). I can max other games and play at 60FPS no issues (Borderlands 2, Skyrim).

Do other people have these types of fluctuations? Or has my 2 year old 560TI finally run its course?

It's a topic that got discussed fairly heavily back around launch time. There are identifiable hot spots on the maps that will cause a significant dip in rendering (turn your line of sight towards Hawthorne hut when on that map and you should see it happen, even when standing in Little Solace). There also seems to be a bit of a kickback with a lot of players around--all the textures and such, even though they may be geting pulled from GDRAM, it's still a lot of wire frames that it has to plaster them on.

Leaning towards SE needing to somehow better optimize the culling and occlusion--maybe even some form of mipmap/LOD Bias or something could help. I noticed toggling the LOD streaming option helped my old ATI 4870 512MB a little. Not sure how much mileage we can get with that on the 1GB+ cards though. Might tinker with LOD cache on my laptop next time I'm in Del Sol or something, just to see. It's an I7 Quad with 8GB and a 3GB GTX670MX in that beast, so not expecting much to improve things at this point, as I've thinned it out pretty good already and maintain mostly 30+ regardless of what is going on with that system now.

I also got fluctuating framerates and I'm running 2 GTX560Ti in SLI, although occurred a few times and was like a 1-second framerate drop.

GTX560Ti can still keep up with the latest graphics-intensive games, that I even held back on upgrading to GTX760. It's just that some maps with players or going to another map (which tends to render graphics on-the-fly since some maps are freakin large) tend to drop framerates. Oh yeah, I also got li'l bit of dropped framerates in Skyrim, but not that much.

    Greetings,

It seems that there have not been any further posts about this concern being an ongoing issue. Because of this, we are considering it to be resolved.
