Housing: A clever gil sink wrapped in a pretty package.

I would like to say I hate theory crafting (when little to no hard data is available) But I was having a discussion with a friend about housing in FFXIV. The following quotes came to mind.

"Buy land, they're not making it anymore." - Mark Twain

This is an extremely true statement in the real world. Unfortunately it is not true in Hydaelyn, The FFXIV team can create new housing zones as needed.

“Location, Location, Location”

Only limited to one location (2.1 release)with unlimited about of plots of land to buy(speculation)?
What does that do to resell value?

Essentially once you buy land.. it decreases in value instantly! If you wanted to resell you would have to sell it for less than what yoshi p and the gil sink team have set prices for.

The only real advantage that was made public was “We are planning to make it so you can build airships and access content” beyond that I don’t see the point of housing.

Perhaps they might implement a FC housing zone bonus.. the higher tiered L size houses get a higher random rotation of company buffs, Or create unique random buffs for FC housing. It would be essential to limit the quantity of these houses

TL/DR

So SE here is what I am saying. Make it worth our gil to buy into this gil sink. Insulting your players intelligence by offering them a sparkling box were they can put sparkling things will only work on… well a lot of people.. but still. Don’t squander this opportunity to make something unique in a rather bland MMO marketplaces.

Nope. It is speculation/theory crafting... As i stated several times in my post. BUT thanks for not reading.

Then I might suggest you phrase the requests as more of a suggestion, and less demanding.

It also helps if you reduce the insults to both the company and the community in your posts.

Hmmm. well im not one to write anything in the warm and fuzzies.. but i could see your point.. I however don't think anything i said (regardless of how harsh it was to the company and/or community) was untrue. Heavily leaning towards opinion? sure.. but they are mine, and editing them isn't something i do without a good reason.

You have to sell the house before you can Disband an FC...

But yeah the Housing system wasn't created to make gil, that much is clear. You buy your house to enjoy your house and the benefit it brings. We're not going to have a "Flip-This-House" reality show in Eorzea.

The entire point was to have your OWN house. Here is America, we like to own our stuff. With personal housing not happening until the summer, now is a good time to take advantage of those land prices if you've got the gil.

I don't like the term "[currency] sink" it has a negative connotation, whereas anyone who has played an MMO for a long time can tell you that the more places for currency to exit the economy, the better. I'm not a fan of Housing personally, it's never really felt like it had a point, but then I do like "goofing off" in MMO's in other ways so I'd understand the folks who love the idea of Housing.
