I was crafting till about 15 minutes ago, I got booted. So I relog and I got up to main screen before character screen. There is a "Start" button greyed out and says lobby error after that.

connection to lobby has gotten flaky on you. May have been because of a maintenance. Doesn't happen just when one is going on. It sometimes happens a lot for a short while after they do a maintenance too. All that extra traffic shooting through with everyone getting the updates and trying to get back on makes things more unstable than usual. And we just had some maintenance cycles.
I get this sometimes too after an update because security is wanting to verify the new version of the executable is safe to run, and because I'm still in full screen, I don't see the prompt in time to get into the config and enable/allow it full network access. Otherwise, it may just be a connectivity issue out in the real world.
If you have security that routinely prompts you for permission to run when it detects a new program (or new version of one), might want to go in there and verify the FFXIV .exe files are still allowed permission to run. If not, (and I hate to even say it) may just need to try again later.
