Companion whistle missing

After completing one of the main story quests I should have received the companion whistle as a reward, but when I checked my inventory it wasn't there. I'm lvl 28 so well past that quest now and still cannot summon a companion

I sent an inquiry through both the in game support and through this site and the only response I got was this bs:

Has anyone else had this happen? Or does anyone know how I can get a companion whistle?

Do you mean you mean you cant summon your mount or you cant summon your chocobo to fight with you ? If you want it to fight with you you need gysahl greens to summon it which you can buy from an npc.

Cannot summon chocobo to fight with me, I have 20 gyshal greens.
When I go into the actions menu, companions is greyed out. If I try to use the greens it says I haven't learnt that command yet

From memory you should learn it after the 'renewing the covenant' quest

You can't summon your bird to fight until level 30 and complete "My Feisty LIttle Chocobo".
