I use the term "Mitigation" to mean guaranteed reduction and "Avoidance" to mean rng reduction in general. Increase to damage reduction % on an avoidance roll falls into avoidance as a result.

The tier system on str parry/block reduction increases(No gain at all except at certain values, about 30 points apart) kills any unplanned dumps into Str, though it's possible that someone at BiS could respec for a few str to hit the next tier. But you would need to respec every upgrade before that to not waste VIT, so when giving gearing advice to people it's rarely worth mentioning.

Regardless, Turn 5 Death Sentence hit's for at least 4800 w/o cooldowns, the more hp the better.

I've found that kiting the Tonberry King as a tank and focusing DPS on him until the big tonberries show up is the best way if you have a BLM/SMN with you. You can LB2 all the small tonberries and oneshot them after the Stalkers appear. This requires the tank to use Hallowed Ground to be able to eat the Grudge attack, but otherwise it's smooth sailing from there.

I should use Hallowed Ground when though? Because the Cooldown is ridiculous (425 seconds if I remember correctly) and I am not to familiar with the Tonberry fight to be honest

But I did as [CianaIezuborn] suggested!! My Hp went from 3365 and skyrockets to 4171!! I am soooo much weaker :[ but I guess that is what comes with the role. I am happier though to see that my HP was much higher now. I feel a little more at ease joining instances.

You should upgrade all your gear to level 50 as soon as possible. You'll get a solid 4.3k HP if you focus on vit.

One small advice, try to tell your group to wait on killing adds after 3 stacks. If you think you can't take it (like the damamge dealers accidentally killed 4), pop Hallowed Ground immediately, since it has a slow animation/effect time (like 1.5 seconds "cast" time). Save the rest of your defensive cooldowns for after Tonberry used Everybody's Grudge.

Just a heads up, you will need roughly 5k tomestones for your full darklight set. Meaning you need to run WP 50 times. It sounds alot and a bit scary, but as a tank, you get instant queue and you can play 10 runs of WP per day once you have done each runs effectively under 20-25 mins. That would give you a complete DL set by the end of the week!

The whole DL set will give you in the region of 5.2k - 5.4k HP. Then you aim for ifrit and garuda blade, before doing titan for your relic weapon.

Thanks! I have to look into this, I don't even have my Curtana yet :[ I assume I can do it if I really try and focus with a great party since hopefully my gear will hold up, if not I have to keep aiming to get better.

You need to beat Titan to get your Curtana from the Relic Reborn quest. People say that you need 5.3~.4k to tank Titan, that is quite correct. Titan consists of 5 phasis. You don't really need to do much (and doesn't require "that" good gear) for the first four of the phase. However, it WILL BE a gear check for you at phase 5 when Titan uses a special technique called the Mountain Buster (commonly referred to as table flip, because of its animation look). This technique will take away 3.9-4.5k HP in one hit, damage amount dependent on your defensive stats and other factors. This particular attack(s) requires you to learn when the attack will come and saving your defensive cooldowns for that attack only.

Therefore, having a full Darklight is a (kinda) must. Buy yourself a La Nosean Toast (a food) to boost your HP (up to 15vit ~around 150hp). Plus the Shield from King Tonberry. All these will see you through Titan for your relic.

Here's the advice I give to all roles. First, get a full set of level 55 gear, the imperial/militia stuff. Fill out the remaining accessory slots with the level 49 accessories that match your role. Oh, and get it all HQ. Reason I recommend this gear is that you should be able to get it easily after hitting level 50 (Instead of running WP dozens of times for a drop), plus you can spiritbind it into materia when you upgrade it, often making your money back or even a profit.

Once you have your 55 gear, start your relic and get up to Ifrit. Do keep in mind you'll need a 55 crafted weapon for part of the quest, just snag a cheap NQ one for that. You should be able to do Chimera, AK, Hydra, and Ifrit in your 55 gear. This is the part where you need to get an upgrade. Run AK and Ifrit until most of your gear is ilevel 60, and you should be able to tackle Garuda. Now, Titan is really hard. You'll want most of your gear to be level 70 before taking him on, just keep farming those philosophy tomestones and farm Garuda. Then beat Titan, get your relic, and it's all about saving up those mythology tomestones and doing coil for your level 90 stuff

Greetings Angeal! Congrats on 50. I suspect the problems you faced in WP were related to wearing dps accessories. Tank accessories will have parry to mitigate damage. You will need to replace these so you're not taking the huge HP dips you've probably been seeing.

Otherwise you are geared for WP, and the other 8 man level 50 dungeons.

Your next step will be replacing your weapon. If you're lucky you can get the drop in WP or you can get the level i55 grand company weapon. In the very least you can purchase your pre-relic and use it to farm ifrit for your primal weapon. The drop can be frustrating but a primal weapon will be your single biggest upgrade and can be used until you complete your relic quest.

Once you've replaced your entire gear set once with a mix of DL, WP or militia gear, and have your primal weapon, you can comfortably farm AK and Garuda.

Tanking Titan can be done with ifrit weapon and the hoplight set from AK but getting full darklight helps absorb the amount of damage you'll be taking and make it much easier to find a group willing to try you out. Having healed Titan many times with various pug tanks I urge all tanks to save themselves the frustration of wiping over and over and get the full DL.

Lastly, focus on capping your mythology tomes each week. The time you take doing this now will help pay for the end game gear you are ultimately working toward.

Personally I tanked Titan with full AK gear on pld and it went just fine(Used the crafted Kite shield and Garuda sword too), I did use food that boosted my vitality though. But, tanking titan is easy as all hell, it is the easiest role in that fight by far, you just stand in one place and take hits and use cooldowns before large hits that are perfectly predictable.

As for your bonus stats on paladin, yeah go all vit, there is no point in putting anything into the other stats, they won't be nearly as useful as vitality.

AK (Amdapor Keep), can be run no problem with AF, and should provide you with Hoplite gear wich will get you by np until you get your darklight gear. If you are concerned about your total HP pool the darklight accesories are pretty quick and easy to get(relatively low tomestone cost).
