I shall still win this conversation when they put it in the game in the near future.
I see...
he's a Lalafell, so he doesn't want anyone jump over his head
I'll create a new character in Lindblum, wait for the time!
I never said you did, L. But that is a sentiment I see often on the topic of jump.
The funny thing about that is that having to walk around everything from low fences to pebbles on the road is more immersion-killing than having the ability to jump would.The fact that a lot of people have played the game for months and never thought "Gee you know what this needs? Jump!" is case enough.
Secondly, character movement, despite what some may thing, is not smoothed out. Adding jump requires them to smooth character animations and reactions between player input (controller or keyboard) and the character moving. This is big to me because I want to see boss encounters that involve more movement and positioning and I know I'm not going to see that based on what we have right now.
Thirdly, dungeon design suffers a bit because you can't have ledges, platforms or anything of that sort. It all has to be ramps in order to move about. Concerned about players getting to places they shouldn't? Invisible walls are the answer there, probably associated with walls of smoke or columns of fire, or in the case of the Garleans, could even be lasers and force fields to keep things in theme.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:

I approve of this thread.
No jumping please. It's my own fault if I can't read a map and navigate a path without running into a hill or cliff. And like many people have said, what people want as "jumping", would be unrealistic. The average vertical jump for a male is around 16-20inches, and female 12-16. That's less then 2 feet. What can we possibly do other then hop around?
Why are you so quick to want everyone to go play a different game? In what world do you live in, because in case you have not noticed FFXIV had an absolute terrible launch and was rated one of the worse games of 2011. Out of hundreds of thousands of copies that it sold only a few thousand are still playing. That is only a handful for an MMO.
If everyone does indeed leave this game (whatever people are still sticking my SE, and that includes people in the forums because no matter they don't play... They wish this game to be successful) Not only will you NOT have a FF MMO to play, but SE could go bankrupt and you may never have another FF again.
So really I have to say to you... You got to stop driving people out of this game. Trust me, there are not so many left. Keep telling people to leave and soon there won't be anyone to leave.
Could be one of the lovely people who eventually start taking the "you're not one of us so leave" stance with people who have different opinions. At least here they can't sub-default your posts, making your comments effectively invisible.
