Honestly, the only class that seems a lore fit for Dark Knight is Marauder. It's also more fitting that Marauder be Dark Knight given Gladiator has Paladin. The noble profession versus the ultimate expression of a pirate's lust for power. You could also say Lancer would be good as Dark Knight, but the lore just isn't there given the Lancer's own story as a hunter of the Twelveswood. The only second jobs I can actually see for Gladiator are Beastmaster (Halatali story anyone?) and Red Mage (because we don't have enough people calling for that). Both are one-handed weapon users who favor shields. Dark Knight (as far as XI goes at least) didn't even have a shield skill.

Bar XI, almost every incarnation of Dark Knight has been a sword and board class. Also, with all the references to previous games, I'd honestly be incredibly surprised if dark knight didn't go to gladiators to complete the image of Cecil. I'm sorry marauders, but I honestly have a hard time imagining dark knights stemming from your class.

Why are people saying Great Sword for Dark Knight, when they used Sycthes in FFXI. They could use a Great Sword, but they had an A in skill rating on Skythes and like a B on Great Swords, meaning the Scythe was the better weapon to be using.

Yeah but you are missing the point that in XI, the mentor of the class used a greatsword and your first weapon was a greatsword.

And firstly greatsword was an A- and scythe was an A+ combat rating, secondly scythe was never the best weapon to be using, both had their pros and cons, get your facts straight.

32 here and I totally can't wait for Dark Knight. But, it had better come from either a new class that uses Greatswords (or battle scythes) and had better not be some lame tanking job if it comes from the Gladiator class.

I loved the hell out of my Dark Knight in FFXI, and well I did enjoy playing Drk Cecil in IV. Assuming it is an awesome looking DPS job with a big weapon, Dark Knight will once again become my main.

It's because they still looked boss in XI with Great Swords. Not to mention, if you were a Drk that knew wtf you were doing, you had your Great Sword and Scythe capped (speaking from before the 76-99 lvl increase) so you could close with Light Skillchains if it was needed.

In FFXI at least, the job is useless unless you have the relics (which were very hard to get). In ARR's case, you might be right.

Actually they had A+ skill for Scythes and A- skill for Great Sword. They were more or less equally as competent with both weapons. You'd commonly see DRKs using Great Sword over Scythe due to the better weapon skills available.

Not to mention, if you were a Drk that knew wtf you were doing, you had your Great Sword and Scythe capped (speaking from before the 76-99 lvl increase) so you could close with Light Skillchains if it was needed.

DRK in FFXI did not use shield at all. He *could* use axes and great axes, although his rating in those was low enough that you generally wanted to stick to scythes and great swords. His rating in single-handed swords (the type GLD uses) was no better than that for axes and great axes (B- for all three).

can not really go off just FFXI, in FFIV Cecil used a sword/shield, and a few other DRK did as well in other FF games.

If any CLASS Becomes a DARK KNIGHT, it wouldn't be Marauder, but Gladiator. It would be a DD Gladiator Job... Dark Knights use SWORDS AND SHIELDS, not Axes.

Unless they make it so the DRK job equip uses Greatsword
