Switching classes, please help.

This is getting me very frustrated with lack of explanation this game offers.

I'm a fresh level 30 Archer (starting class) on my way to become a pugilist. When I confirm that I want to become a pugilist, I'm responded with "you need to complete lvl 10 quest of your starting class before taking another discipline"...

WTF. I'm level 30 atm and my main quest line is sitting at 23 so I already completed lvl 10 quest. I thought maybe I had to complete a lvl 10 guildleve but that wasn't the case. Ugh...

did you do your lvl 10 Archer quest from the Archer guild? The class quests are seperate from the main quest line

You have to complete your level 10 class (Archer) quest. You get a new class quest every 5 levels. The game doesn't remind you of this, so it's easy to miss this or forget. Generally, you have to head back to the class guild to get it. However, the NPC can change (it did on BLM) and you have to remember where it is. If you forget, you can check your Quest log, Completed tab, Class quests.

on thm, theres around.. 5? guild leaders for the thms if thats what you meant deka, its a guild led by the brothers. (Idk if the actual blm job npc changes though.)

But as everyone else said, you need to do your lvl 10 quest on your main class before you can actually class change to any other class.

Yes, but that's not what I meant. The brothers are all in the Thaumaturge's Guild. When you get Black Mage, first you have to talk to the Guild Receptionist, then someone at Milvaneth Sacrarium in Ul'dah, then someone at Burgundy Falls (trying not to spoil anything here). It's easy to forget about these two locations after 5 levels. I kept forgetting.

Oh~ I haven't quite got my blm there so sorry for the whole explaination but yeah that does sound confusing!

As others said, it's not your main quest line. It's your *class* quest. Every class has its own quest line, handed out at five level intervals at the class's guild. Until you do your level 10 one for your starting class, you can't change classes. I might also note that if the reason you want to become Pugilist is so you can unlock Bard, I'll point out that unlocking Bard not only requires you to be a level 15 PGL, but you'll also have to have done your class quests for ARC through level 30 (which is the last one; you then get job quests for BRD starting at 30 to unlock BRD, and then, once more, every five levels, although they won't all be at the Archers' Guild any more).

That seems to be normal. For both WHM and BRD you talk to the guild leaders in Gridania and then get sent to an NPC in South Shroud (different NPCs for each). For SMN you talk to the ACN guild leader in Limsa and then get sent to Old Gridania, for SCH you talk to the ACN receptionist then get sent to the MRD's guild.
