I agree, this is hideous. I almost died solo'g a leve I can do in my sleep. The main problem for me, as mage, is you have to close down your action bar to change target between party members and mob(s). In the process it's easy enough to end up setting this to something you didn't intend, so when you re-open your action bar, you discover you can't target an enemy or party member, causing you to have to do it again.

I know alot of this is habit, having used the down direction for self targeting, etc.. Maybe we'll be lucky enough some day to have macro's with <stpc> <stnpc> <bt> etc.. In the meantime, I sure hope they remove this, or at least make it optinal in the menu config.

I too would like to see a better solution to the targeting system than what was released in patch 1.16. The new system sacrifices the ability to easily (and quickly) select oneself and to navigate through the party list in an organized manner. Not being able to move through the party list any longer makes it needlessly difficult to select party members that are not in your field of view or party members that have been knocked out and need a raise.

Another thing I would like to be implemented is the ability to sub target party members using up and down on controller. I'm a sub targeting fiend in FFXI, meaning that I often choose which spell to cast and THEN choose my target. In the current system, you must exit from the action bar interface, choose your target, open the action bar again, choose the spell, and then cast. I would rather be able to keep the bar open, choose a spell, then a target and then cast.

I love the new targeting system on a controller, not sure why they changed the healing system though, seems like there was no reason to at all.

Meh, I got used to it. Only took a day too. >_>

Then again...using a keyboard was always a better option.

I don't personally know what the issues are relating to using the new targeting to heal since I haven't tried that yet. I DO know that, while this is somewhat better than the old system for attackers, I STILL somehow end up targeting an enemy I'm not even facing way far away from me, OR somehow automatically selecting someone who heals or casts a spell on me (even when set to targeting enemies only). And I'm not even sure why.

So, better, but not by much. In a way it even pronounces the flaws in trying to do battle.

it's a nice feature, just poorly implemented and over lapses a previous (incomplete) feature

I also have to re-train my brain to use left and right instead of up and down to target party members (my main is THM).
I do wish that they had kept the up and down for party member selection as the party listing is displayed vertically on screen so it is only natural to expect the cursor to run up and down the names in the same order/direction.
Selecting dead party members seems to be broken for me now as pressing left and right with "All", "Party" and "Friendly" doesn't seem to pick them up. Using F1, F2 etc on the keyboard works for the most part (in parties with just a few people), although in a large leve party the other day I still could not find the F key number associated to a dead member... maybe it was just me.
Also, even with "Enemy" targeting selected, people still automatically target the healer when buffs/cures are cast on them before engaging a mob.
The left and right party member selection is only for those in line of sight (where your camera is pointing) as someone mentioned before, so some of the original targeting functionality has been messed up in my opinion*shrug*
Probably not so bad for melee/dd, but as a healer I definately notice it.
I think the change is a step in the right direction but I would personally prefer:
    a) to have the target selection function not assigned to left and right or up and down
    b) the up and down put back to party/self selection
    c) possibly the choice to turn the function on and off (rather than a default "here it is in your face!").

I kinda both like & dislike this option.
However i would like this new targeting system to be optional in the menu to choose on/off.
And it would prolly satisfied most ppl that play with controller that way.

OK, I'm changing my view of this. The more I use it, the more I can deal with it, although I still don't think it's the final solution.
