I swear to god if I hear the "Dragoons are dragon slayers!!11" excuse one more time, I'll vomit.
Look, I understand that traditionally in FF, they haven't had pets. But look here: what would be even better than simply slaying dragons?
Training and taming dragons to help you slay other dragons! Are dragoons really such indiscriminate killers that they can't necessarily see the potential in using your enemy's strength to your advantage? I understand if you don't want them to have one for whatever reason, but don't say it's impossible.
I doubt that they'll actually get a pet in this game, and I'm pretty sure I'll level the job up eventually just because its armor is amazing, but seriously? The "lore" excuse can easily be turned with a few plot twists in this game.

The ff11 wyvern was awesome if you knew how to use it. A career rdm saw me in action while we were camping the nm that drops Jelly rings and he started leveling his dragoon. He never realized how versatile the job was. You just have to practice. I would have parties ask me to sub blm or blu so they'd have an emergency heal.
And the drg two hour was insanely overpowered. Specially in Ballista. I took down a rdm/blu from full to 0 with one pentathrust. Combine the two hour with a thf doing sata and superjump and the two classes would destroy a monster without annoying a tank.

No more cast bars for Bard! Thank you, Yoshi-P! All hail our lord and savior!

As a Dragoon, I can say that I'd HATE suddenly having a pet that was required to optimize DPS. If I wanted a pet I'd summon. Plain and simple.
The insistence on balancing DRG while taking into account the wyvern was perfectly sound it just wasn't executed very well because DRG wasn't meant to be a full pet job. In order to prevent DRG having a major advantage from a solo standpoint they had to make the wyvern sufficiently weak so they weren't outright tanking/soling high level monsters while the DRG stood around watching. This created a problem where the wyvern was impossible to keep alive in endgame content and scaled up so poorly as to be useless when they WERE alive. This is what I meant about synergy. There needs to be some kind of push/pull that allows the DRG to be balanced even on their own and when they call their wyvern become weakened a little in some way to gain a slight advantage with the wyvern out.
No, they really don't.
And lore-wise in FFXIV, Dragoons hunt dragons, like in most FFs.
Summoner pets are disgraceful enough, and their whole class is meant to be based on them.
Imagine how garbage a Dragoon pet would be.

Maybe when second jobs come, Lancer will get one that has a pet.

SE Please Add Machinist As A Pet Job. Musketeer/Machinist = Puppetmaster With A Gun.
If a Dragoon got a pet, I would actually play it. I'm all about pet classes.

If I wanted a pet, I'd switch to Arc/Sum/Sch. That's already two pet classes too many.
