I had the same problem as you, OP. Then I checked the item prices on the auction house and threw away 95% of everything I had. Most of the items in this game aren't worth crap. I usually just throw away stuff I get while leveling my gatherers or crafters. Why? Because if I ever need them again I'll go and gather them. Or buy them because everything is dirt cheap.
The economy on this game is a bad joke.
