When exactly did they add this?

I started off Twin adder and soon capped it out in rank and 50k/50k seals.

Swapped to Immortal flames and did the same thing, I do not recall any sort of Fee, as I would not pay 50k gil to swap GC...

Today I go to change to Maelstrom, and they wank 50k Gil to change FC?

The GC officer notifies you that the 1st time it's free of charge to change.

I think it's alot of gil and I'm a 1.0 player. For 50,000g it better be worth it and... well, this isn't worth it.

change again and again GC is useless... the only motivation for change is for achievement... so you can spend 50k for achievement ^^

It is not that 50k is a lot, it is not, it is that the benefit of what you receive for you 50 is not worth it.

If SE wants to add gil sinks into the game that is fine, but at least make them actually slightly worth it.

50k isn't that much. Even if you never sell a single item its not that hard to get, since high level dungeons now dispense a fair bit of it.

But i'm glad you're not changing ever again, there's no much reason to unless you like the items offered by one company better than another's.
