    Tacked on

Does anyone else feel that half of the stuff(vanity) in the game just feels tacked on with no real purpose? It lowers the value(to me at least) of the game. It feels like a very cheap way to lure people in. They spent time creating silly mounts/pets when they could have put that into something more important. Like, more customization for your actual character. As people said a lot in 1.0, don't add stuff just to have it.

So, you feel stuff in the game is tacked on?

Do you believe games should not contain Easter Eggs in general? OF just that there is to much of it here in MMO's?

    Always remember the Silver Rule:
"Treat others as they treat you!" ...or something like that.

Not at all what I'm saying. Mounts and pets are NOT easter eggs, they are vanity. Very poorly done vanity. Feels cheap(like a f2p game).

I know a lot of people who enjoy having mounts and minions although I do not personally care (i used chocobo from day 1). But i believe it is a matter of preferences. I personally am a huge fan of collecting gear sets, and have tried to collect most of the unique-looking gear sets in the game such as acolyte, foestriker, cavalry, infantry, battlemage, colosseum, templar etc. in a way, they have no more values after their level ranges but I just *like* having them pretty much like how some people love having minions and mounts.

mounts and pets/minons/companions....... you mean like in every other mmo?

I think what feels tacky is something like the limitbreak, you have a pugilist using clouds buster sword...... that feels tacky.

I get that, but they just feel very cheesy, no real place for them, especially when they have no AI.

Every f2p mmo? Yep. Besides WoW and FFXI/V. I can't think of any other games that are not P2P that have mounts and companions. FFXI at least put a story behind your companion. Every game now is F2P, because they feel cheap and not worth a monthly sub.

I don't think the vanity stuff in this game necessarily feels tacked on so much as it feels useless. For instance, I don't really feel dyes have much use.. I can't run dungeons with my pet out, titles don't display unless someone looks at my lodestone thing, and any vanity gear I can't wear while actually -doing- stuff in the game. From my understanding though, they are fixing at least some of that in 2.1.

Then you haven't been paying attention, the only MMO (that started it P2P) that DIDN'T have them I think are the Everquest Era MMOs.

A proper wardrobe system has been highlighted as an issue in another popular thread, one of the many things that should be fixed, my only worry is that it indeed gets implemented properly and does not look as cheesy as those unicorn and magitek armor mounts, motion stop and shoddy graphical design is not a trademark of the final fantasy I grew up with.
