How to get support if you don't have a character?

My friend has been trying to install the game for two days now (he bought it on Friday). However, when it gets to the patching portion, the download is hanging and he cannot complete it (it keeps telling him a problem occurred).

We've tried all the troubleshooting we can do on our end, but none of it has worked. He really needs help from Square, since that's who he bought the game from. However, when he tries to put in a ticket, it will not allow him because he doesn't have a character created. He can't create a character because he can't get the freaking game to work. And he can't post here because - again - he can't make a character.

Where do I send him so he can get help? It's completely ridiculous that there isn't readily available help for new players. This is going to drive off subscribers.

Have you tried the Square Enix customer service e-mail?

Have you also tried disabling any firewall/anti-virus that might be running when patching?

Not sure about the first (I left a message asking him), but as to the second, could you provide an email address that he can send to? The only "email" I know of is a form through the support site. But the support site is requiring him to have a character to log in.

You could always just copy your ff14 onto an external drive, copy it onto you're friends pc and give it a name of FF14-b as a temp name, then install the game in whatever you have game named as (say ff14-A) then don't patch yet, delete ff14-a folder and rename FF14-b to ff14-a, THEN patch, you will probly have nothing to patch at all if your version is up to date.

I didnt feel like downloading the entore 7+ GB when installing the game on another laptop. This worked great and i didnt even have any patching to do. Course I forgot to copy my settings file and macro/hotkey ui stuff but i did that later after i realized they were missing heh.

    hope this helps some.

It sounds to me like something on the computer is preventing it from working properly. This is 99% of the time anti-virus or firewall software. Try disabling them while installing or configuring them properly. If you are using a firewall that offers something like game mode. Turn gamemode off during the install as it will not alert you to problems while gamemode is active.
