I uncheck the option, yet the pet hotbar stays there. I don't know why the option to not use it is there, if it doesn't turn off the hotbar.

The option is for the Cross Hotbar, specifically. With it enabled, I swap between the pet hotbar and whatever other hotbar was active when I summoned the pet when I hit the right bumper/ r1. With it off, it cycles through my hotbars as normal even when my pet is summoned. If you're a PC player, You'll have to hide the hotbar using the HUD layout editor.

You can't hide it in the HUD Layout editor. If you right click it in there, nothing happens.
