    Alternate advancement sphere grid

Can the more hardcore players among us have something to grind on that further customizes our characters that's not gear related please.

A huge sphere grid like in Path of exile would be amazing. Clicky

Basically I want something to seek my teeth into long term (very long term). 30 stat allocation points and having gear the same as everyone else just doesn't cut it for me.

At least there is achievements to work on still.

Oh yeah a card game would be nice to. Cheers Yoshi.

Interesting... But remember that a good portion of our players came from FF11 where they had to suffer the agony of the merit point grind. If you've never played, think of it as a sphere grid just without all the pretty circles.

Or maybe they could look at a sphere grid similar to FFX (it's FF after all).

Merits merits must get more merits guys I'm sick of pink birds.

And the best of them all "guys I'm bored I'm gonna toss a Thunder IV on it" "Nooooooo noooooooo" Ahh the good old merit party (and yes I did know about the mimic they do, I was just bored.)

The masses already excluded themselves, by their inaction in different area's of the game, from proper gearing to learning mechanics etc.

I don't know about 'excluded themselves' but when you have the parties to get geared demanding only geared people (I've sat in Mor Dhona long enough to know what the shouts call for) it's hard not to be excluded. And many prefer to learn a game by doing, not watching videos, it's more fun and that's what games are about.

As for a sphere grid... remembering X I have to say... no. It's a bad idea. Yeah, it sounds neat but it only worked in X because it was a single-player experience. Implementing it in an MMO, and an MMO that routinely uses level caps no less, would result in a heck of a mess.

I've always been a fan of skill trees and people using the same job in different ways. Unfortunately, though, in MMOs... people are going to find the one "best" route and pressure everyone into using that. So even with options, things just end up being linear anyways.

I can see it now. *enters dungeon in duty finder* Rage quitting perfectionist: "What?! You didn't go THIS branch of skill tree?" *quits immediately without even starting the fight.*

Sphere Grid/Skill trees/etc are an illusion of choice. Yes, you can spec however you want but there will always be an accepted "best" once the min/maxers work out whatever that is and if you chose something else have fun being excluded/ostracized for it. The only way this would work is if end game content was retooled around it, where say a BLM who decided to be more of a Fire mage would be the obvious choice for the ice raid boss, but this then fragments the available pool of players you can find to clear the content with.
