    Graphics card issue?

I'm not really sure whats going on here, and this is probably either something I'm doing wrong or an issue with my graphics card, but maybe someone can help me with this.

Today I started up the game and within a minute my graphics card proceeds to shit itself . One of 3 things will happen: My computer will freeze completely forcing me to hard restart, the screen will black out (Not sure if its freezing here as well but the music stops and it seems as though I'm unable to do anything), or the screen will black out and a few seconds later it will come back and I get an error that says "Your display driver has stopped working but recovered", but then it will proceed to either black out permanently or freeze again no more than a minute later.

My card is a Nvidia 560 Ti and it hasn't given me too many problems since I got it. I've actually been getting the occasional "Your display driver has stopped working but recovered" error for maybe 2 weeks now but I kind of ignored it because it happened so rarely.

I have tried uninstalling the card and using different driver versions, but still the problem persists. Thats the extent of my limited tech knowledge. Does anyone have any idea as to a solution or whats causing the problem? I really hope my graphics card isn't dying.

Sounds like the card is overheating and shutting itself off. Hate to say it but it may be time for a new card.

ATI: Check your temps using the ati catalyst, under overdrive. (where you overclock your card, there will show your temps)
Not sure about nvidia, but you can always download msi afterburner to check temps.

It's a Nvidia card. Your problem lies in your drivers. I would suggest you go to http://www.geforce.com/drivers and download their latest drivers. Uninstall via their program, then reinstall. Check to see if the problem still happens afterwards. Since you've been seeing this for a few weeks, it's just come to a head in either the system or the card. You may also want to remove your cover on your case and use a can of compressed air to clean the card's heat sink off if you have not done this in at least the last yr. I recommend you clean your case at least once a yr. A simple YouTube search will show you how to do it properly. Try these easy steps before you consider replacing the card.

If you're a bit more advance I suggest deleting the driver via the Device Manager before you re-install. To do this go to the Device Manager, expand the "Display Adapters", Right click on the "Nvida GeForce GTX 560Ti", select "Uninstall". A prompt will confirm, and have a option to "Delete the driver software for this device", check that box then hit "OK" Close the windows once it's done. Restart the computer with your Lan/wifi disconnected so that windows does not automatically download software from it's servers. Then open the file you got from Nvidia and install the drivers. If this does not solve your problem then you maybe having a hardware failure with the card and it is time to replace it.

Or you can just select perform a clean install in the nvidia installer which does the same thing.

Thx I'd forgotten about that option. I usually don't trust installers to actually remove 100% of their files.

I was getting this too, its a Nvidia driver issue with FFXIV, i kinda fixed it with uninstalling the latest drivers and going back to older drivers, i used Version 306.97 (mines a GTX 660) but for an older Video card like yours might be better with Version 295.73.

You can find the older drivers in the Nvidia website

Before you go swapping drivers, do a quick check to confirm your video card's fan is working properly. Take the side of your case off and boot up. If you don't see it spinning, or it is spinning slowly and doesn't start to increase it's speed once you start playing the game, something may up with the fan and it may need to be replaced--or the extra power cord may not be connected properly. For the casual PC owner, replacing the GPU's heatsink and/or fan may be a bit of an advanced task...for the cost to get a professional to do it you may do better to just replace the card.

If you do not want to replace the card, and the fan is working you can simply try underclocking it. Unclocking it will make it generate less heat under load, and might start operating in normal parameters. This is also a way to test if it is actually a heat issue. You can also use programs like Speed Fan to see the temp of your GPU under load.

I had this exact issue on an older PC that had poor cooling inside. As a bandaid until I upgraded its cooling system I just underclocked the card by about 25% until it was stable and no longer crashed. Then returned it to normal once I upgraded the cooling.

Make sure your card is actually overheating before you try to fix that. I get crashes but my card definitely does not overheat. GTX 670 here.
