Monk and Gryphonskin

50 relic BRD/MNK/PLD here I main Monk job however.

Few questions for the community. I have all darklight on my monk job currently but it stacks Skill Speed like its going out of business. I've done some research and the general consensus is 100 SS = .17 GCD which IMO is junk. Whereas 100 Crit Rate is roughly 8-9% more crits which sounds fantastic.

The million dollar question is DO I FARM for animal fat and eventually deck my character in the said Gryphonskin set?

Do I burn Myth Tomes while I'm getting Gryphonskin?

And if I should burn myth tomes, on what? Most people say the Circlet is best first. However a glance at a BiS list almost every piece is Allagan.

I have an Allagan necklace for raiding, so lets say I deck out in Gryphonskin. raid monday boom Allagan drops, how much gil am I out due to tipping crafters and materia costs? Is this all really worth it in the end?

Just the accessories, properly melded, wind up between 4 and 7 mil (there is a thread about it where a WAR was gearing up to DD with the jewelry). That cost is a combination of literal cost and opportunity cost (you can sell the coke/ore/fat etc between 35 and 60k each, plus materia melds are not guaranteed and many pieces will bust). Extrapolating that number, I would estimate full Gryphonshin armor with pentamelds to run about 11 mil, give or take 3 mil either way based on luck with melds and what you can sell the philo tome items for.

I went with the body/gloves/pants/boots, mainly because I had the mats and a close friend to craft them for me. I would say, if you have a coil group already. Don't bother. Wait on the drops. If you don't have +1 weapon go with that first, if you do Circlet.

I don't mind skill speed at all. With GL up my Global is just under the 2 second mark. Besides having SS doens't mean you can't have crit. Get a healthy does of both.

yeah I am in a successful raid group downing up to turn 4 every Monday. I've been just selling off all my animal fat I buy.

honestly I just buy them out of boredem or habit whenever I finish a set of runs so i'm up to about 1.5 mil if pentamelds burn that much cash I really don't see the point in doing it if i'm clearing the content no problems as is now
