Why should it cost so much more in tomes to create a set of crafted gear than darklight? I think the items needed for the crafts should cost the same as the darklight pieces.

darklight requires a cumulative number of tomes by a single player, the crafted can be done by multiple people. Ever seen FC do 2 or 3 quick 8man speedruns and have their main crafter make the crafted gear HQ, sell it, and split profit?
Also, I have no use for anymore darklight, so now my extra from helping friends/capping myth go to making items to craft and sell, or mix with friends who have extra's too
HQ ilv70 equipment have the same stats as their darklight counter part, with the ability to meld materia on to them. That's the reason why it costs more to make them.
Being on a legacy server most of my FC mates have all or pretty much all jobs to 50 so I would never ask them to help me unless they offered after they were done with gathering their own tomes for darklight. Just because a group effort is put into it though doesn't change the fact that they should still be the same cost.darklight requires a cumulative number of tomes by a single player, the crafted can be done by multiple people. That is a valid argument, but I should be awarded this luxury for leveling my crafting job to 50 so I can craft it. I know that most people would have someone else craft their items so how about making a rare/ex version of the material at the same cost of darklight for the people who craft their own gear too?
They used to take less time to make but SE deliberately made it take longer to get all the mats to craft them.
"We have made adjustments to the following crafting recipes to better balance the longevity of the existing content."
That's your official answer.
Well maybe if we get enough people to agree it's a bad policy we can get it changed for future content. I would think if Crystal Tower is ilvl 80 gear there might be a crafted set coming with it.
It's because they were future proofed. We're already seeing them drop in price and value because 2.05 made philosophy tomes much easier to get. Items that used to cost millions now sell for less than 300k.
The thing about darklight is that its bound to your character but the crafted items can be sold or traded, so that gives them a value above darklight that requires a higher cost - one that becomes cheaper over time as more people get richer and more tomes are pumped into the market.
Some are absurd, taking 27 tome items...while others like the Tank armors use 2 slots per armor (4 slots for 2 pieces), preventing half the materia from being melded.
Whatever their reasons for making ilvl70 crafted stuff cost tons of tomes, I think the consensus from crafters is that it's a very annoying, unfun, barely profitable, anti-climactic crafting endgame after putting so much effort into leveling and gearing our crafting classes.
They need to find some other way to make the "best of the best" crafting items hard to make. Some way that doesn't force us to grind PvE dungeons even more than non-crafters have to. Or spend so much money on the market boards for mats that there's a big risk of hardly making any gil and even a risk of losing lots of money.
If we leveled the gathering and crafting classes, we should be able to get the mats ourselves. PvE-only players shouldn't have an easier time getting equipment than we do.
Not that they should make it super easy, maybe they should have it so we need several stacks of 99 HQ rose gold mats or whatever to make 1 really good item. But crafting and gathering shouldn't be made so pointless by PvE.
