I'm going to try getting into crafting seriously pretty soon, and I wanted to ask what the most profitable class to go with is. Suggestions?

All DOH are pretty good but would say Goldsmith is probably the most profitable. Crafting levels give you good money and XP
Gold smitty, leatherworking, and weaver all nag me profits.
Gold smitty because it has a little something for anyone,
Leather working because of so many bards (plus non-caster accersories)
and weaver because of healer gear.
Armor smitty is meh because there arent so many tanks to buy my gear,
and carpenter is just the worst. I absolutely regret leveling it. Only the boots are worth a spit.
Whichever one you choose, you will want to get all crafting classes to lvl15 at least (except maybe armorer). Especially the Culinarian, Alchemist, and Carpenter skills will greatly improve the chance of you getting HQ items. Other skills are more situational, but are useful nevertheless.
I will also include culinarian and alchemist as possible classes that will provide steady income. Many players go through hq food and potions for end-game content. Some players are fortunate enough to have a dedicated crafter in the fc, but most will have to buy it. WHM will also nab up mega-ethers at end-game.
depends on hw saturated of crafters & supplies on your server.
in zalera for example, theres a bunch of weavers, goldsmiths, bsm/armorer & carpenters. things value depreciate very fast w/ crafters undercutting ea other esp. on non-HQs.
things i noticed in thar, theres only few alchemists who really capitalizing on reagents. im kinda capitalizing on some midlevel alch stuffs liek inks & oils atm. sells pretty good @ quiet a price lol
i know theres one guy teh only one sellin shark oils 2.5k-3.5k a pop (non-HQ-HQ)

I would recommend leveling all the crafts, for 3 reasons
1: You need to take advantage of cross-class skills to reliably HQ, and HQ is the main way to make money
2: All of the crafts except culinarian can attach materias for others, which can work as extra income.
3: The market is a fickle beast, and what sells now may not sell well later, especially if people flock to it.
i started w goldsmith. i figured that everyone needed jewelry so it was a no-brainer. unfortunately, i think others thought the same and saturated the market. then i went to weaver and made tons, especially off of gear for crafters/gatherers.. but then i ran into the diremite and fleece wall. i would like to say to just look at the MB but it seems everyday prices keep falling and i fear the longer this game is out the less profit you will make from crafting. oddly enough, i always make decent money off of buying gear from NPC's in random locations that people forget about and selling them on the market. in this way, you save from farming/buying mats and more importantly you can completely ignore the shard fiasco caused by bots. another trick is to sell materia. find the ones that sell well, equip the appropriate gear, ask FC to use the +5% bonding buff and spiritbond while grinding WP/AK/etc.
