Why servers keep going down

Ever since i got the game, servers have been going down 2-3 times a week during the hours that I usually play 11pm-2am pst. Why isnt this games maint more in the AM's PST time? Just want to see if anyone sees this as a problem for people who play late sessions. Getting kinda annoying.

The NA & EU servers are located in Quebec so they are EST. This means they are going down between 2-5am EST on weekdays, pretty much the lowest traffic times possible.

Most of the maintenace other than large patches, which they need to do at the same time everywhere, are done at off peak times in each region.

They're located in Montreal to be more specific. Despite their geographic location, times are given in PST much to the chagrin of those on EST that seem to feel that theirs should be the only time zone recognized.

Edit: he/she is correct though in stating that those hours have the lowest traffic on the NA side. If you look at maps that show subs/connections to any online game, the east coast is always lit up like a christmas tree. They game a lot it seems lol

We will have to deal with this for the duration of our FFXIV lives. The company who made this game is Japanese... so they do the maintenance during Japanese business hours (so if anything goes wrong they can attend to it)

world wide game, JP based company, when all servers go down its going to impact us a bit more then the JP.

Data center specific maintenance (most of the times servers go down) the time is more like 2am -5am PST.

OP must have just started right at the 2.05 patch with had a few followups in the same week due to minor issues. we had not had anything during these times since the 10hr ones adding major data base upgrades in the first few weeks.

Also OP, overall, the times they use are the times with the minimal logins across the servers, just cause that alot of your time does not mean its a bad time to do them, world does not revolve around the late night PST player. If like once or twice a month (on average) you have to take a night off for game upgrades its not a big deal, happens in all MMO's to some subset of the population.

not sure what you mean, but they post in PST because SE's NA offices are in California, a PST state.

Grew up in CA so I'm fully aware of its time zone but thanks. I was just poking fun at the poster who felt the need to point out the geographic location of the NA/EU data center. Ever since serving with a number of guys from NY, NJ, etc. who spoke about their respective states and the east coast in general as if it were the center of the world I've had an innate need to nettle them at every opportunity. Just some good natured ribbing.

not to mention eastern NA has higher overall population, so theoretically has the higher population of players, but regardless of that.....no matter what time zone they put it in there will always be inconvenience for someone. their current selection of maintenance window is during the lowest game traffic time, so it affects the lowest amount of people.
