    melee targeting

Well, after some fiddling around with the filter settings, I'm getting the hang of being able to control when I select mobs versus when I select players or NPCs. But is there any quick way, with a PS3 controller, to say I want to select this mob right here that I'm standing right in front of, without having to first cycle through every other mob within 50 yalms of me? Even when set to select enemies only, I can't find a setting for selecting the nearest enemy (or at least cycling between those within melee range).

I was under the impression that the Confirm button was supposed to select the nearest target (that you're facing) when you don't have anything targeted.

L2+R1 and R2+L1 cycles through only monsters within your field of vision. Use this in tandem with the camera stick for easiest targeting.

This is what I do. Make sure you hit Confirm when you are facing what you want to attack, rarely fails me.

Also you may want to make a macro that has /target <tt> in it. Just target the tank in your party with up/down and hit that macro, you will instantly change to whatever they are attacking.

I've mastered my targeting for my personal needs as a tank and I stick to the target filters and managing my LoS, but Akuha's tip was a good one for what you're asking. If you're using the L2 crossbar skills then tap R1 to target nearest, and alternately if you're using your R2 crossbar skills use your L1 to target nearest.

@Bixby, X should do that but fails too often for whatever reason and then you're switching to your DPAD to scroll across to the one you want. For whatever reason the L2/R1 R2/L1 functions better, and if it misses the target you can easily flip through targets in your LoS.
