I am tempted to ask you for a drawing of my paladin...
if you are referring to the old Bioware community Neverwinter and Neverwinter 2 (The former made by obsidian) the multiplayer persistent world servers are still up and active and still lack the term 'toon'.You are partially correct, Ultima Online your characters were usually refered to as 'chars', but other graphical muds like The Realm and Neverwinter Nights people called them toons. In Everquest Online Adventures they used a lot of terms like char, av/avatar, and toon. The majority of the crowd using the term toon played The Realm, Neverwinter and to a lesser extent M59.

I was referencing the use of the word in the MMO sense...But, I do thank you for taking my post entirely out of context. In the future, I'll be more clear.
Also, more specifically, since we're now taking this conversation out of context, it was originally used for "Toon Town"...
I don't think the movie ever made it to the MMO world, however, Toontown the "MMO" did in the early 2000's.
It was still being used in UO, EQ, et al...Long before it became a game.
"It was always used?" BOooooorrring. Let's spice it up a bit.
People who use the term "toon" come from an alternate dimension across the internet, where the Kinect rules with an iron fist, all fails are wins, and the PS4 is ridiculed on our AntiTwitters(With a red Twit as its mascot) as #PSPoor.
Who gives a crap if someone calls their pixelated creation character, toon, avatar, hero, etc. There are bigger problems in this game to worry about then lingo...
WoW terms should be suspended in XIV and people who use those words should be suspended either.
I always used Character or Char for short, which is the same number of letters as Toon. The games typically refer to them as your 'character', so I never really understood the whole 'toon' thing other than an intentional knock on the tendency for MMOs to have to compromise on graphics compared to single player games. I can't really say I've ever played one where the world looked far more realistic than the characters though. (I'm not saying they're not out there. Though, even with WoW, as 'cartoony' as it all looked, the world looked just as cartoony as the characters, so there wasn't really any kind of contrast)

Dude, chill
There is already a plethora of threads to discuss "bigger problems" this is not a problem, just a debate that people can enjoy and not take it to heart. The forum is called "general discussion" not "super important things that I complain about and I want SE to change ASAP cuz game is dying according to me and stuff"
Updated OP, Finished! added more characters.
I'm pretty sure he's talking about Neverwinter Nights from around 1991. It was a text MUD that ran on the AOL servers. The Neverwinter nights 1/2 games that you're talking about came about because of that old MUD.if you are referring to the old Bioware community Neverwinter and Neverwinter 2 (The former made by obsidian) the multiplayer persistent world servers are still up and active and still lack the term 'toon'.
