Why do Bards do this much damage when they are support class!?

If a Bard doesnt have a song up 100% of the time, he is a bad bard. Stupid Bards, dont you know you have to sing all the time? Bard is support, since FFXI and other MMOs says so.

If you look at it... In all actuality, the guy using the bow and arrow should do less bodily damage than the guy hitting you with the axe/sword/lance/spear/bladed fusty cuffs. Just he can do damage from a safe distance.

But, that would make for a boring and super weak class that no one in any mmo would actually play lol.

Instead of personal insults like some on this thread I'll try to just post the way I see bards right now.

People sign up to be an archer. A class that shoots arrows at people. Changing the roles after getting the job would be sort of silly. I support the idea that bards should be more support-oriented though. You can't do that easily before giving another job for the archer class though. Add Ranger as another job? Problem solved. People get to choose just arcanists do.

Until I can queue in as a support class I'm going to be expected to put out some dmg. We put out the lowest dmg of all the DD classes as we should, but since we are classified as DD and not support we need to put out that little bit of dmg otherwise we're just a liability no matter how much support we bring to the table.

Tis the life of a Support/DPS hybrid.
