High quality mareia slots Q

So I've seen people with lv 50 high quality gear and they have several slots. But my high quality lv 50 gear for my Botanist has 1-2 slots (I did buy them off market). So is it possible increase the slots or are the gear have a set amount of slots? I would like more slots if possible but not sure if certain gear gets certain amounts of slots. Not a crafter thus my question

Another Question for other Botanist or people who know. What is the cap for gathering? I have 323 Gathering but I don't have my Best weapon since it will be a while to get. But have the high quality gear except for my rings (I need the GC rings) and my main weapon (dont have since it take a while to get)

The slots you see on crafted gear is the amount of materia that you can meld to it that has a 100% success rate to meld. All crafted gear can essentially hold up to 5 materia but any materia that you try to meld past the number of slots on your gear will have a risk of failing.

Usually on the 100% success melds you'll throw in the highest level of materia that you can in.

Its called forbidden melding and its a quest (i cant remember the level) that you get the same place you get your original melding quest from

Would I need to have that skill if I want more than a couple materia on my gear? I did get that option to request melds.
