lol. Glad to hear you don't have too many issues with the OEM setup ps3. I had some crazy issues, but then again I had a 1st gen machine. Is yours by chance the new super slim? That's a pretty good way to look at it, I personally plan to just wait. I haven't really had many issues with monsters not appearing lately and I've managed to do Odin , Behemoth, etc. without worrying about not seeing the monsters.
Also@Milmoko : It's pretty doubtful any further updates will brick your PS3 for having an SSD and even if it does happen it'll be fixed quickly as you wont be alone when it happens. If you feel the investment is worth it I'd suggest it.

Sorry to ask this here but you all seem to have some decent SSD knowledge. Bought the PC version of game cuz it ran pretty smooth during betas, but now reality has set in and my poor laptop just don't cut it. It has an SSD but I installed to HD (in my excitement to play didn't even think about it) and now I don't want to spend the time installing again. My question is: Should I just reinstall to SSD? I know my lappy aint enough to play the game perfectly, but will it help enough to be worth it? And before you tell me to buy a new pc, I'm already pricing parts to build a decent 1 but want a temp fix for now. Thanks in advance for you're timely answer(s)![]()
Nah i'm using the older PS3 slim model, But my machines only like.. A year old I think. I didn't want to buy the super slim xD. The only issue I ever notice was the one time I tried to do a praet speedrun way back. And it's just not possible without the SSD installed. You'll be in cutscenes for half the run lol.
SSHD? Didnt event notice that or know the difference :/ thats how untechy I am when it comes to PCs lol.I haven't heard of SSD's bricking any PS3s personally. As for the Hybrid drive you chose... I'm sorry but i'm not sure how compatible it will be... Theoretically it should work... but not sure the performance differences.
Like I stated before... I bought an SSD (not an SSHD like you linked to) because I had future PS4 upgrades in mind.
Thanks for pointing that out though you may have saved me some wasted money there!
I'll do some digging around online and see what comes up price wise, might wait til new year and see if prices drop as I want a brand I trust (Samsung, Seagate usually) or a Toshiba since thats in PS3 apparently.
The drive I got, for the record, was a 120GB Kingston off of Amazon. 80 bucks.
Just adding my 2 cents - I also recently upgraded the PS3 to the Kingston 120 GB SSD. Though I wasn't patient enough to wait for Amazon's shipping - I picked one up in a local Staples for a few dollars more.
Really, the longest part of the process was the backup and restore. Swapping out the drives couldn't be easier. And the performance increase made the cost WELL worth it. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep the SSD in the PS3 when I upgrade to the PS4 or not - but only because I may get a second one for the PS4.
After all, with Dark Souls 2 coming out it's not like I'm done with the PS3...
TDLR: SSD makes an AMAZING difference that's well worth it.
imo, if the system really was bricked, and then fixed shortly after, its most likely because Sony DOES support SSDs to a small extent.
Remember, there is a PS3 slim model that uses a 12 GB SSD (complete rip off) so maybe when ppl complained about their system bricking, it included those models. (To which sony had to make fixes for.)

I plan on getting this on Friday: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A1ZTZOG/...I13XLVB03967KX.
Avalon mentioned that it makes the game perform so much better. I was wondering if it fixes the following issue: right now I can run through a city area and not see an NPC and only a few PCs. Will the SSD solve that problem?
Character loading is infinitely better with the SSD installed, from players to NPCs to even using the summoning bell to call my retainer. Now, due to in-game limitations, there's only a set number of characters that will load within your position on the grid at any one time no matter what, but they load VERY fast now for me.
