And on that point I agree 100%. The recent silence on the topic is only inviting vilification. At the very least an acknowledgement of the ongoing and more recent latency issues is warranted.

fyi FFXI servers never left japan.
Since I and many others had problems until SE GOT BT TO FIX BT'S P2P THROTTLING I think it safe to say your assertion it was SE's problem is clearly false.
This thread is another that demonstrates it's ISPs who cause the problem, not SE:

All those saying must be the SERVERS because their 'ping' time is fine clearly have no idea what the real problem is, so they'll carry on blaming SE when SE are powerless to fix a problem that is not of their making.

You, KraggyKor, and a few others on this forum are really funny (NOT)!Since I and many others had problems until SE GOT BT TO FIX BT'S P2P THROTTLING I think it safe to say your assertion it was SE's problem is clearly false.

You don't have any problem what so ever with this game, but you simply MUST comment in every single thread that is created here in tech support ....
Why don't you just stay away from the forum then, instead of posting your useless comments!
I think I fixed my lag. Complained to comcast and they came out and fixed some stuff. Have not had a single lag since, and Im monitoring it constantly using ping -t.
I guess I can still comment. my account should be closed as of today as I am not subbing. some questions and observations about the positional aoe lag, or whatever you want to call it.
I feel that many people who have replied have told me it is my problem to take care of, and that it is not a problem caused my SE. so I have a few questions in response to that.
1. I have noticed that as a workaround I can avoid getting hit by aoe if I stop once I hit the edge of the red circle, or if I do an instant cast once I hit the edge. this forces position to update right? if the problem truly was with all of the isps, backbones etc that my data travels through, logically this would not work as a solution. if I stand still or cast an instant spell I would still be 'throttled' if that was the problem yes? I would say this alone points out faulty programming on the part of SE.
2. I can see if I bought ffxiv, then got on a plane and moved to a country where the game is not marketed, started to play it, and complained, that I really would not have any grounds to complain on. but this is not the case. I live in southern California. I bought a game that has minimum specs that my connection and computer are way beyond. it is the responsibility of SE to make sure that since they marketed the game to me in California that any backbones or connections I go through the game would still work, even connecting to a server in montreal. for all of you who keep on saying it is my responsibility, I really think you have gone off the deep end.
3. as many others I am playing games like world of warcraft, guild wars 2, rift, and others and I chat with people in those games from new Zealand, Australia, and many other places in the world. no positional lag problems is in these games.
so this is just a last rage. I know that there will be a dozen repsonses right after this telling me how things are broken on my end and SE is not at fault at all. but really, if throttling etc was the problem, how am I able to use a workaround of pausing at edge of circle or casting an instant spell. sorry but your argument does not hold up.
If your lag is not rubber banding due to bad routing, and a symptom it is low FPS.. That is not the same lag issue that everyone is complaining about. The lag issue is with bad routing from crappy segments on your way to the SE data centers. If you are having a drop in FPS than that is a local issue. Not being able to dodge AOE's is bleeding into the real issue. If you have the routing rubber banding issue.. chances are you are not even going to make it to a boss to be able to find out you can't dodge aoe's.
Players lack of skill with AOE circles has nothing to do with the bad TATA, and Cognito segments that are the root of the real lag issue.
well I have seen quite a few videos now in these forums of people being completely out of red circles, the circle then disappearing, and then they get hit by the spell or whatever. is this the 'lack' of dodging skill you are talking about?
but since I am not locked out of the forums yet I will spar a bit more. in my opinion, and just call me totally loony crazy if you like . . . before SE published the game they should have done some kind of research of how data would flow from various places they were planning on marketing the game to their servers. they have at least one previous mmo right? and if they are marketing ffxiv to the same areas as their previous mmo they would have some knowledge of how the data flows? and if you tell me they did not do some kind of research of this type I would then have to call you crazy haha.
when it all comes down, this is my uninformed best guess. from previous mmo experience, SE is taking an educated guess at how fast/slow the game population will change. and perhaps they are trying to hold out for 4-6 months to see what the population is like. then, they will pay for more bandwidth, upgrade servers, etc, in order to serve that population. if they do so now, they stand to lose money as some number of the players will drop off and the extra hardware etc would be wasted.
unfortunately for peeps like me, they expect me to just hang around until they are ready to make these changes and put up with inferior service in the meantime. also unfortunately, for whatever reason, the choices they made have really impacted the initial release of the game in ways I have not seen in other mmo releases.
Lawl... They did have this data.. It was gained in the beta phases... In the final beta phase, Open Beta.. they had over 1 million players trying to log in. The lag issues existed in open beta, and persisted thru early access. They had the data... They just choose to do nothing with it.well I have seen quite a few videos now in these forums of people being completely out of red circles, the circle then disappearing, and then they get hit by the spell or whatever. is this the 'lack' of dodging skill you are talking about?

As for AOE circles.. Everyone will experience at least a few times being out of circles and getting hit. But this is very minimal in my experience. The real issue it the packet loss that causes everyone to freeze in place for 3 - 10 seconds then speed up over and over and over.
Apparently you weren't aware that FFXI has/had servers in SF as well. Latency became a hot topic when JP & NA HNMLS's began competing for claims. JP would often out claim and someone made the claim that the latency gave JP something like .001ms advantage allowing them to claim before NA even saw it spawn. Some time after that if I'm not mistaken SE responded with something to the effect of "you NA are connecting to the game through our servers in SF. Cry more". Prompting a whole new generation of server raping claim bots.
