Hi,
this is an issue that occurs very randomly and not very often.
I exchanged the hard disk of my PS3 slim (CECH-2004A) with a Samsung 840EVO 250 GB model.
The rationale behind this was that FFXIV would benefit from a slight loading speed increase. And it did. Loading times are significantly shorter now. Also I got double the space I had before.
The exchange process went without problems. I installed the system software 4.50 via usb flash drive according to the instructions from the Sony website. I did not save the old data from my old hard disk but reinstalled FFXIV from my Sony account download list. I re-built the system from scratch so-to-speak.
Everything set up and logged in after patching and playing for a while, maybe an hour or so, the game freezes in the middle of running in Gridania. That was on October 17th while running the game for the first time with the new SSD. It's a hard freeze. Nothing moves, controller input is ignored, bluetooth keyboard is ignored, everything is locked.
Since then it happened three more times. Sometimes audio loops, sometimes not. I have to press the power switch to get out of this. No controller input accepted. When that happened and I pressed the power switch the system goes down with a three-time beep and blinking power led. After that the system powers down normally and I have to press the power switch again in order to get back.
I have played FFXIV almost every day since then, sometimes for short bursts, sometimes for hours. It happens very rarely. I had hour long sessions where nothing happens at all. I also played GTA5 and Dragon's Crown on the system and an assortment of other games in my library and it only happens in FFXIV. Albeit I haven't played any other games as long and intensive as FFXIV since then.
I am not expecting a quick solution. Right now it's only annoying. I'm content with the speed increase so far. I'm just a bit concerned and was wondering if anyone else has the same or a similar experience after exchanging the hd with a SSD.
