FFXIV on Facebook and Iphone? Seriously, why not!

Someone posted that SE should port FFXIV to FB and Iphone(IOS). I'm sure the person meant it as joke in regards to all the people who sit on their butt crating all day an desire nothing more. But really i think there is genius behind that idea. Let me explain how this could work.

Linkshell chat: Let's you chat with players from your linkshells. While they're online or send them offline messages.

Linkshell Calendar: Let's you see your linkshell's calendar for scheduled raids, behest etc. (Once they implement something like this, if they do of course.....)

Linkshell Bank: Let you browse the items of your linkshell's bank (if they implement such a feature) and gives you the ability to request withdrawls and make deposits from your inventory.

Grand Company page: See all news and info related to the Grand Company you joined.

Eorzea news Paper: says it all... like FFXI's news paper but in Facebook!

Markets: Browse the markets, buy items which will be delivered to your mailbox!(Or to your mog, I'm still hoping SE's take on the mailbox will be a personal moogle)

Tetra Master: Card game from FFIX, FFXI. Wouldn't that be a perfect fit for a FB game? Winning could provide you with special in-game items.

Retainer treasure hunt: Select a retainer, give it a certain amount of gil, select and amount of time, select an area and your retainer will go on a treasure hunt! If successful, he/she will come back with in-game items for you!. Delivered straight to your mailbox. With time your retainer will level up and unlock new areas to explore giving the chance to find rare items.

Crafting mini game: Let's you use your inventory to play a crafting mini-game(different from in-game crafting) So you can craft some special/bonus items. Not to replace in-game crafting by any means. Just to craft special items that are not available in game. Seasonal events items, special hats and gear etc...

Achivements page: Let's you see browse your achievements.

Let's not forget a FFXIV offical Facebook account. I know so many people spending their life on FB and a lot of companies out there are smart enough to take advantage of that free marketing opportunity so why not S-E?

The Iphone could also include all of the above but it's graphical capabilities could open the door to more possibilities. Like other mini games that will provide you with more in-games bonus items and achievements.

If they don't add a mog house in game they could add one for the Iphone app.


From a marketing point of view this would be an amazing opportunity. Even make some mini games available to people who don't own the game yet, pushing them to buy FFXIV and unlock the full experience.

EDIT #2: I forgot to add that they should have an Android app too. Not just on iOS. Android is present on pretty much every smart phone out there besides Iphones and Blackberries and it's expanding very fast so an app for google's platform is a must.

My linkshell already uses facebook by using the facebook group feature. It would be nice if the linkshell chat was connected to the facebook group chat. That would be awesome.

Indeed. WOW already did it with the Iphone app. You can chat with your guild members who are in-game. So there is no reason SE can't do it too! But i believe they should take it a step further and have all of the above features. It is great that they are changing the game into something much better but they need to promote it well too if they want a chance at making this a very successful mmo.

With so much competition in the mmo genre these day you really need to start thinking outside the box!

World of Warcraft does it with their Iphone app. They even charge a monthly fee for some features so i don't know how difficult it can be if it's something that was already done.

As for it being profitable, Blizzard is still supporting and updating the app with new features, they wouldn't if it didn't work.

Im going to get so hated for this but Blizzard are better developers than SE, SE have already stated its very difficult to have cross-zone shouts in XI stating the server load would be 3 times as high if you throw in the whole of jeuno+rulude as a single shout zone, this I find very poor server structure.

Blizzard runs no the Battle Net and chat is put through there for all Blizzard games and that is how it works so well for its communication features. You can talk to WoW players through other games and such. SE right now cannot do a lot of ingame features due to bad server structure and this is why I don think they will make a facebook/iphone app anytime soon for communication. At least not anytime soon.

The community could probably craft one together XD like on XI.

SE has a lot of money too, i think in the end it all comes down to good and bad management.

Yeah i'm hoping too that the Card game makes a come back somehow.
