Stupid question - What year is it?

Hello,
I am really sorry for asking so stupid question but I really don't know what year is now in the game..
In one quest astrologist sent me to get his note from year 1572 so I guess it is about 1580?

At the start of each era, the year resets to 0 (or 1). When 2.0 starts, it's 5 7UE. The fifth year of the 7th Umbral Era. When Bahamut is released in 1.0, the era switched to the 7th Umbral Era.

At the end of the story, the Grand Companies begin a new era: The 7th Astral Era. So, endgame takes place Year 0 (or 1) 7AE.

That's because the year 1572 of the Sixth Astral Era is the year that the Calamity actually occurred (the year that 1.0's original storyline happened in, ignoring the Echo-jumping into the past that happened a lot of the time). Dalamud's summoning wasn't an instant event, it took time (essentially a year and a half of real time) before it finally came down resulting in Bahamut's release.

From that specific date the era changed to the 7th Umbral Era - which the general consensus is, by the time ARR starts, it is the year five of the Seventh Umbral Era.

I think it's still a little ambiguous as to whether the new Astral Era really started. They barely declared it the Seventh Astral before a primal roar went off and none of the core issues that led to the fall of the Umbral Era have actually be solved aside from the Imperial invasion - and in 1.0 it was stated over and over that the Garleans weren't the real threat here.

So the 7th Umbral Era only lasted 5 years? I was under the impression Umbral Eras were always times of decadence, with the fall of civilizations and cataclysmic events. A 5 year long Umbral Era seems a bit... underwhelming.
