Hey white mages, does Benediction pull hate? Does it over heal? I got yelled at today in a dungeon because a DD got hit by a monster and I used Benediction on him to heal him to full, and I got yelled at. When the monster hit him it brought him down to less than 50% as we were running. He said that benediction over heals and pulls massive hate. I never had any problems with hate issues using benediction, until today as we were running, and the person got hit.

I don't think it overheals, it always recovers what your target is missing compared to other spells which will show all that the "healed" for even if your target is at full HP. It does give a lot of hate depending on the timing though, like if you are like me and a little too Holy-happy in Wanderer's Palace and have to Benediction the tank early =P

Yes it does pull hate. It doesn't pull more per point of healing done. (I personally think it pulls less hate per heal) However, It always heals for the maximum HP of the target.

EX: If the target has a maximum of 5000 HP and currently has 4000. Benediction would heal for 5000. Considering it only needed 1000 HP it is healing for 5 times what it needed. Pulling more hate because of sheer overhealing numbers.

Also, "too Holy-happy in Wanderer's Palace and have to Benediction the tank early =P" yes. Me too. Everytime lmao.

Benediction pulls a lot of hate because it instantly heals the whole MAX HP of the tank.
If the tank has 1000/7500 HP, Benediction won't heal 6500 but 7500 so it ALWAYS overheals.
Use it only in extremely dangerous situations, and if you can use Shroud of Saints after.

That said, its not really that much hate. If you are pulling it was probably from the hoyl damage (hoyl is actually like the second strongest aoe spell in the game after flare). Healing earns threat at a 66% rate of damage, so even on a high vitality pld like me at 6.4k, its only 4224 points of threat. (1-2 full roh combos, so not much). Also I'm pretty sure the overhealed amount doesn't actually earn threat (else whm threat would be even more insane, that or it earns at a reduced rate).

Hm, from my experience it's really a lot aggro, but if the tank is doing well his job the healer shouldn't aggro that easily.
But, you know, there are lots of tanks that just tank one enemy, and in that case you surely will pull other mobs.

if you ever do a speed run in WP, and have to use benediction.. cause the SCH might be having trouble keeping the tank healed.. you will notice it.. :x

Benediction heals the player for their max amount of HP.
Example: Player 1 has 2500HP. Benediction heals for 2500hp.
Player1 gets to 500HP. Benediction heals for 2500hp, 500 of which will be overheal.
So yes, it does overheal.

I've pulled hate from my tanks numerous times with benediction, it does generate aggro. How much? well as much as a normal heal for that amount I'm guessing. During raid situations, or boss fights after like 15 seconds, you should not be pulling hate with it whatsoever. Like others have said, you use Benediction, and worry about the (probably nonexistent) consequences later. Your priority is to not let the tanks die. If they die because the healer is healing them too much, it is usually their fault. Now, if you are healing during a sprint/mob gathering part in like a WP speedrun, and you used benediction on him before he gathered them all up and got aggro, it's both of your guys' faults.

I don't understand why we let dps or tanks push us around let me tell you that tank would have gotten an ear full. We manage the hp they manage the hate stfu and tank when the dungeon is done he will be getting all the credit for his great tanking while we sit in the corner quitely letting them bask in their glory. Don't get me wrong thats all ok but don't let them bully you... Ever heard of the term don't bite the hand that feeds you, well don't smack the staff that heals you buddy.

Same goes for a WHM that sits idly by and let's their tank get bashed on by their pt as if its all on his shoulders. The tank and healer relationship is sacred one and when either of them disrespects that it really ticks me off. Now if either is actually sucking then that is a different story but never let your tank push you around or maybe just maybe your next cure will be just a little bit later than the last one...

Conclusion: never cast a benediction on a WAR with [Thrill of the Battle] combined with [Defiance] buff. It seriously... seriously... Makes your hate skyrocket XD

I really only use it in emergencies. Sometimes is comes in handy during general mobs, but mostly for bosses when either I or another party member goofs up. And given that it's an emergency spell for me, I haven't had anyone yell at me about using it.

I have so many questions about this.....

You speed run WP with a whm AND a sch in the same 4 man party?

SCH having trouble healing a single target? That happens?

SCH in speed runs of WP at all? (I know its doable, but that hoyl to kill adds on bosses 2 and 3 is so nice)

When in a WP speed run would Bene pull hate? On aoe pulls the tank is building tones of aoe threat to beat the dps anyway....
