    DoT and DPS are not the same thing. A DoT is simply a damage over time effect as opposed to damage dealt in a single attack. Damage per Second is how you gauge a Damage Dealer's (DD's) sustained damage, regardless of the source of the damage. Once job, for instance, may be able to have high spike damage while another job is able to consistently deal moderate damage that equals out to a higher overall DPS average. Whether or not damage comes from direct melee or magic attacks or if it comes from DoT, the average output is still DPS.

    Since when did DD stand for melee damage?
