    PS3 and PC versions

I have a PS3 version of the game while my husband has a PC version.

At the time I didn't have a PC powerful enough in order to run FFXIV, now that I do I would of liked to switch back and forth depending how I felt like playing but to my dissatisfaction I am unable to do this. I don't see why I can't just buy the game and play on whatever platform I feel like especially after paying $80 and $13 every single month on top of my husbands $10 a month (legacy).

When expansions come out are we going to have to buy 2 games even though it's the same house hold? I feel this is unfair as we have to pay a monthly fee to to play. With FFXI I was able to just sign up, pay monthly, and play using his version of the game.

I don't know where else I could post something like this, I understand I could just quit the game but I like playing games together with my husband and he will not be quitting...

Well in honesty don't you expect to buy 2 different version of a game if said game was aviable for the ps3 and xbox? I'm assume you do. So why would this be any different I was honestly suprised that we will be getting the Ps4 version of the game for free if you bought the ps3 version. I am sure though you would need to buy 2 copies of the game when expansion comes out. To prove that each account had actually purchased the game. I do understand why they do it. Its to stop people from buying one version of the game then handing out to friends to install, and then just purchase a subscription. The company would lose a ton of money if it was that way.

If it was available for us to be able to use the same copy when I have a better PC (planned in the near future) I would just switch over to the PC to prevent so many copies of the game.

I'm sure if they wanted to prevent people from giving out so many copies they could set up something like buying more codes for house holds that have multiple players.

I can sort of understand where you're coming from but really PS3 and PC are two different platforms. While it'd be awesome to get both at once, the upside to having to buy both is that you'll get 60 days of free play time. Plus, you don't have to pay a separate subscription for both platforms. Look at DCUO from Sony Online Entertainment. I've got it for both PC and my PS3 yet I need a subscription for each platform and each platform is it's own game.

As for needing to buy expansions more than once even though you have multiple players in the same house... Sorry but I don't get how you can see that as an issue. That'd be no different than being upset that you and your husband had to buy the game twice to start off with. I don't know of any MMO that doesn't work that way because it would be far, far too easy to game the system if you could log in the same account multiple times at once.

Yea Kali I do see where you are coming from, but because its on 2 completly different platforms you would still have to buy 2 versions of the game. From a business point this is the most logical way to do it vs hiring someone to implent another security function. To use the same copy on multiple PC's or Ps3's.

We were planning on having me switch to PC once I get a better one, but he wanted to get me started on the game to begin with so I have the PS3 version for now.

With FFXI I was able to play using his game and expansions, just a different service account. I don't see why they changed this with FFXIV.

so the point of this thread is you want to cheat the system and not have to pay for a copy of the game. that's not the way the world works anymore unfortunately. And yes I have both ps3 and pc version and had to pay for both (especially since i bought the ce for the ps3) as well as the monthly subscription. Also there isn't any announcement for an expansion yet. Another thing don't you think they deserve to be paid for the hard work they've put into this game? I mean think about it when you pay for the game (even the disc itself) you are in turn paying for their employment. It with paying for the game on different platforms it also means better content for us (which is what the sub is for as well)

I forgot to mention the company won't allow you to do it off another platform anyway you have to register that platform thus meaning you have to buy another copy

For each Service account you need 1 base registration code for each system you wish to play said game on. When PS4 version launches (beta starts 2.22) PS3 players can upgrade to PS4 for free but lose PS3 access or you can purchase another PS3 copy.

As for expansions, it is my hope you only need a copy for each system, not for each system and account. The reason XI has the leniency of needing just the account and any copy of the game is because you didn't register a copy of the game to the account (or bind a PSN to account) and the accounts were free (Free Trial + later subscription)

This would make sense if multiple players could login and use a single account at the same time, but the game does not work that way. If you login from the PS3, it would kick you off the PC.

Seriously, I'd like to know the reasoning for this. I was able to download the PC client before I even purchased the game. I couldn't play because no active account, but I had the game ready and waiting.
You bind a Service Registration to your account when you redeem the product registration code to it. If you only have a PC copy and try to log in on PS3 you won't be able to because you a) have not bound a PS3 registration to your account and b) have not bound your PSN account to your SE FFXIV Service Account.

Looks like this is the only way to play on both platforms; which is to buy each copy of each platform for a given user. I personally had purchased 1.0 back in 2011 and my brother later on bought 1.0 back then so he too could play. Once 2.0 came out I purchased the CE version on the ps3 for myself and the regular ps3 version for my brother that way either of us could switch platforms easily whenever we felt like.

In beta phase 3 and 4 SE allowed ps3 users to play on windows for free but that was the beta. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that SE was planning to make it available to purchase registration codes for either platform which would then be substantially cheaper than buying a physical or digital copy of the game itself; I could be wrong and had misinterpreted what I had read. Not sure if they are still planning(or if they ever did announce it) to make the platform registration codes available for purchase though.
