What kind of features are there?

From what I'm reading this game is becoming more and more like Aion. It's another MMO that I play regularly. With hearing about Housing and the skill bars are the same. So this leads me to a couple questions..

- Will there be PVP in this game? Are there instances for PVP? Or PVP realms?

- How do you get different mounts? Or is it only Chocobo? Are there other pets? Do they come with purchases with real money?

- Are Free Companies like Guilds/Legions? There is a Brigade General/Leader then Deputies and Centurions, etc?

(Btw pardon the terms, I'm based off Aion right now trying to compare and determine if this is a game I want to stay with.)

- Costumes? Like skins where you can change appearance of armor without losing the stats? Same with weapons.

This is coming in a later patch (look up Wolf's Den)

So far, the only non-special mounts are Chocobo and Magitek. Magitek is from endgame (finish the story). You can get a Goobbue from 1.0, Coeurl from CE of 2.0, and Void Resonator from Veterans Rewards.

Yes. You can name the ranks any way you want I believe

There are currently vanity-type items, but no way to wear them without affecting stats currently. That is also coming in a later patch

PvP: Coming with housing in 2.1. It'll be small-man teams 4v4 iirc

Mounts: Don't forget the Unicorn(CNJ30 additional quest)

Free Companies: Like ForteXX said, they're XIV's player-run guild system. Can have up to 15 ranks atm(checked personally for the limit)

Costumes/Vanity: Planned for some time after 2.1, don't know if they've said for certain when or what patch

For mounts there is one more bonus mount not mentioned - the special Legacy chocobo certain players of the original FFXIV who qualified for 'Legacy' status got (paid for at least 90 days of subscription last year when FFXIV version 1.0 was still running). Because this campaign has ended, the Legacy chocobo is no longer attainable though, the same goes for the goobbue mount (which was also only available in version 1.0).

The Legacy chocobo is pretty much the same as a normal one though - it runs at pretty much the same speed, other than being a slightly different colour (pale yellow with feathers tinged black), with the 'Legacy mark' branded on it's beak and a different style of armour and saddle, which cannot be changed. The Legacy chocobo is also just a mount - it cannot be called in battle as a companion like the normal chocobo can.

If you were a former player of version 1.0 who qualified for Legacy status, the Legacy chocobo mount would be sent automatically to all characters on your account (original and any new ones you create) through the Moogle Delivery Service, just like the ahriman and courel mounts.

Really the only mounts you can now get besides the normal chocobo are the magitek armour, courel (by buying or upgrading to the Collector's Edition), ahriman and unicorn. Apparently more new mounts are planned for the future though.

How do you get a mount though? Is it bought with Gil in game or are they only available with real money?

Game progression. Chocobo is unlocked via seal grinding once you've joined a Grand Company. Unicorn is a CNJ30 reward, and Magitek is a main story complete reward. TBH I wanna see a Drake Mount(DRG) & Behemoth Mount(WAR).

Coeurl and Ahriman are CE & Veteran awards, and players from v1 can have a Goobue and Legacy Chocobo, but only if they met the conditions from v1.
