If you don't like jump just don't use it amirite.

Joking aside. No idea what the problem is, it's a 2 second action. It removes invisible walls (or at least it should). If people enjoy their restricted world, then sure, no jumping. Xenoblade felt much more vibrant than FFXII did because you could explore with a jump function. Nothing was truly held behind an invisible wall. Right now you gotta walk around every rock, can't drop down from cliffs, etc. It's a little silly that we can't do simple things like this to get to various places. Not really saying I think that those against jumping are wrong, I just cannot see what they have against a simple feature like that. Even FFXIII-2 has manual jumping.

Those are offline games where jumping abuse doesn't hurt other people's immersion.

This is not an FPS, there is no place for bunny hopping or mario jumps. If they do add jumping it should be like in Final Fantasy 13 where you move close to something and it auto jumps you because that's where its appropriate to jump, (Or give you the option only at that point to use jump). This is a small detail that can help separate a serious mmo title from toony games like WoW.

Jumping is coming there redesigning the zones with the ability to jump in mind.

this is a particular dog that is best left lying down.

When you hit that wall you couldn't climb over, if they gave you the ability to jump, they'd have to make a bigger wall. No jumping is SE's way of having a wall, but it not being a huge wall, and thus more ascetically pleasing.

You dont need BS like that. All you need is a short cooldown. You make your own immersion. If someone is acting like a jerk, you blacklist them, ignore them, etc. If enough people don't like a person's behavior, they will not get invited to do things and realize that acting stupid doesn't make you popular.

Characters shouldn't jump twice their height, no, but it needs to be just enough to be functional. Jumping does not equal mario or bunny hopping. Jumping has the potential to be mechanically useful when ground hazards exist- which they do in XIV. I honestly don't feel things such as this should be included in an MMO if you can't jump out/off of ground-based dangers.

Features should not be denied just because a few kids who don't have the maturity level for an MMO in the first place *might* abuse it.

A few kids acting stupid is a very, very poor reason not to have a useful feature in a game.

In Eorzean lore it states that the adventurers lost the ability to jump hundreds of years ago. As much as they try to lift both feet off the ground at once it just won't happen. Even such a simple task, that would no doubt serve as a very important tool for overcoming environmental obstacles every day, is simply impossible for the people of Eorzea.

LOL give me a break, put jumping in the game and stop the goddamn whinging.

It ruins my immersion by NOT being able to jump over a tiny little crack in the ground.

Oh and can you imagine how long and expensive it would be to put designated jumping spots around the entire world, and if they took shortcuts with it how many people would complain that the jumping looks monotonous and unrealistic? THAT SOUNDS LIEK A GOOD IDEA GAIS.

Edit: HOLY CRAP I wish I could like my own post!

It ruins my immersion that you can't crawl under rocks or climb up cliffs or invite a fine lady to personal quarters for some late night synthing. It ruins my immersion that I can't read the newspaper in game, steal fruit from stalls, or toss small Lalafell just to see how far they go. My immersion is peril because airships are instant, Chocobos appear and disappear out of nowhere and my inventory is some apparent limited void that can only hold 200 individual types of items of varied sizes and weights.

    Is there anything more relative?
    Maybe, but it's all relative.

Actually, it is very much a game breaker. The inability to jump was annoying as hell in FFXI, too. The FF games have needed the ability to jump ever since the series went truly 3D with FFX. They were able to get away without a jump button in the PS1 games because those were more psudo-3D as opposed to the actual 3D that we didn't see until the PS2 games. A game that has 3D graphics and 3D environments should not have 2D character movement!

And yes, you can jump in some of the offline FF games. FFX-2 has a context-sensitive jump/climb button, FFXIII has auto-jumping all over the place, and then Dirge of Cerberus and FFXIII-2 both have a specifically designated jump button. So for you to go around claiming that you can't jump in any FF game just makes you look ignorant, because you can.

But regardless, complaining that you don't want jump is pretty dumb when it's already been confirmed that SE is indeed going to add it to the game eventually. Maybe it won't come until Version 2.0, which is fine by me, but it's still coming regardless. Might as well get used to the idea and stop bitching.

Don't be dumb. Jumping doesn't ruin anyone's immersion. And if it does, then that person needs to grow the hell up. If someone gets annoyed at something as simple as jumping, that's a problem with the person, not a problem with the game.

Personally, I don't get annoyed at all when I see people jumping in other MMOs. What annoys me is the people who complain about the jumpers. It's like they're just looking for something inane to whine about.

You mean they'd have to make walls that are actually of a size significant enough to make them believable barriers? Oh no! How horrible would it be to have believable barriers in the world instead of stupid ledges that don't feel believable as barriers at all! What ever would we do!?

    </sarcasm>

Your argument about appealing to aesthetics is bullshit, by the way. There is nothing inherently more aesthetic about a short ledge as opposed to a high wall. Neither one is any more visually pleasing than the other as far as aesthetics are concerned.

I think many people are assuming that 'jump' will be like the lesser quality korean MMO clones with thier 3 x your height jump spam abilities...

Personally when I think of a FFXIV jump I think more like a real world hurdles jump or vaulting off the rails ...

I believe this would be a win for the '' immersion argument ''

Roes, elvann and highlanders would just step onto the rail
Miqo's and lowlanders much like the picture
Lalas would hoist and slide over

    Something like that ^^
