The same reason some people are obsessed with stopping it from being put in: because they want/don't want it.

Few people give a rational reason for their opinion. But in general:

Most people who don't want jumping are afraid of seeing noobs bounce around all over the place acting like idiots just because they can (To that I say: "Ignore those people and blacklist them and they'll learn nobody wants to be around them"), or because "we don't need it." Then there are a few people who oppose it just for the sake of opposing it to give supporters a hard time.

Most people who do want jumping want it for variety, allow for more interesting world design, make it easier to avoid ground obstacles, take shortcuts, etc. Then, again, there are a few people who back it just because they need something to back (or they like giving the opposition a hard time)
