Okay. Jumping would totally be a gimmicky enjoyment for this game. The things everyone seems to want to jump over are inconsequential. For that half a foot drop you consider a problem, you could probably have walked around it in seconds and ignored it since most of those are only three or four feet wide except things that are actual minor to major cliff drops. There's usually a certain scenic routing to the way the land is in FF.
Some of these things everyone wants to jump off of and on are just more gimmick fun. You know~ There's an old saying about idiots liking high places. Like...I can tell what everyone wants to jump. Some of these things are leg breaking leaps. I'd abhor something like that in FF. (Please refrain from turning this into a "lolVideoGamesRealism" argument) I avoid games like wow because I don't like seeing men in plate mail jumping off of mountains and being A-OKAY. I like that immersive feel of how a path may feel. Like this is where someone would walk because they would realistically not want to tread an unnecessarily dangerous path.
Swimming~ Swimming just has no point in this game right now. AhtUrghan in 11 had a temple that was technically underwater. Having to swim to something like that would be kind of cool.
I didn't want to go into anything, because all I wanted to say was that the people arguing that anyone who doesn't want jumping is holding back the progress of the game. That sounds so simple minded. Yes~ Jumping is the key to fixing everything. It's the most thought out, deep and fulfilling additive to an MMO experience. It's like those people who are extremely superstitious that call people that don't believe in ghosts close-minded. A totally backwards logic progression. Jumping and swimming are a shallow development feature. Content, environment, lore and fundamental gameplay should step in before considering those. Why would I care if I can jump or swim if there's no where to go to except climb a mountain the developers never intended to detail because they didn't think anyone would see it.
EDIT: Basically, I see a lot of "We want jump." vs "We don't NEED jump." Ive seen the NEED word used very often by the jump opposing side. Not because they don't want jump. It's just they seem like they understand the priorities of the developer. On the other side, while the "wanters" may understand that there is a prioritized system to this, they keep bringing it up. Like I could understand making posts in order to ensure your voice is heard. You want them to consider your idea. But jumping IS on their list. They said they want to play around with the idea. So forcing the topic so much goes from voicing your opinion to make sure it gets worked on, to just pushing that you want jump more than other things; like you want it now. But regardless of hard you want it, jump is just a low tier priority at the moment.
Someone argued auto-attack being a laughable "higher priority" then jumping. The first wave of things I believe they mentioned they're going to test out is the dungeons. At this current moment, although the belief is the battle system is broken. But it's workable for the time being. We have a tremendous lack of content.
